Happiness 7/10. Don't *love* the work but it is challenging at times which makes things interesting. Plus, started making bank MUCH later than most and had buttloads of loans to pay off. So will end up financially about the same as buddies who went into finance or law straight out.

2/10, was on disability last year, ongoing mental illness, has really trashed my relationships, can't run much these days. Although I am pretty happy I haven't gotten fired despite having to take time off work for a few months.
Finance worker, 40hrs/week, 80k with good bennies and pension. 6/10 bcuz they make me get up early in the morning. I do get to work from home 1 day every 2 weeks. Yippeee. 1 hour commute each way.
Gov. Lawyer. 30-100 hours per week. Rarely 100, but if in trial, all bets off. $170K after 16 years in. Will top out @ about $180K present day dollars if I stay. And I probably will. 8/10, but I've been doing this so long, not sure what would be better @ my skill level with the quality of life I get to enjoy. It's a good gig, but not for everyone. When I'm in the middle of the madness, family, diet, health all take a back seat. Most of the time (35+ weeks a year) though, I am well-balanced . . . I hope.

Typically 45 hours/week. About four-six weeks per year I work 60+ hours per week.
$95K/year + great benefits (excellent 401K match, very affordable medical/dental/vision, four weeks vacation time).
8/10 happiness. A year ago I would've said 6/10 happiness, but was working 60 hours/week on average and lacked perspective. After reducing my hours and interviewing at several different companies, I realized I was very happy where I was.

I recently offered a job to a lib arts major working at a non-prof. After stringing each other along for, I dunno, coupla months, I made this this twenty-something what I thought was a good offer: 50% pay increase + 25% bonus + STUPID bennies.
Turned. Me. Down. Gonna be big star.
Ended up getting a diff lib arts major, twenty-something for about $75k base.
Call me spiteful, but I feel like sending a note to candidate #1 (who, as far as I can tell, has *not* become a big star), but that would be unprofessional...

Happiness 9/10-every day is different and generally enjoy the day-to-day practice of medicine-could have made a lot more being a specialist, but great for balanced lifestyle for family time and running...as rickybobby mentioned later start and have to pay off loans but you make up for it pretty quit-no regrets.
