I wonder if anything will actually come of this since it was so long ago. I know Junxia and Yunxia's Olympic medals are safe because it's after the statute of limitations. Does the IAAF have something similar for the World Championships? For world records?

Ma's Army were the first women to train like male runners from the sixties like Ryun, Lindgren,Clarke and Clayton. The women didn't seem to break down like their male counterparts rather were disbanded as the drug busts, which mostly seemed to be in-house,deep-sixed govt support.

8years is 8 years, no matter how you slice it. There may be some roundabout way to ban Ma permanently, as an "enabler" or something like that, but it's been a while since i needed to know the Code that well, so have to ask someone else. As far as Wang goes, she's fine, just has to live with the legacy. could be worse tho, really.

The biggest news about this wil be how IAAF handles it. Brushing it aside or "failing to authenticate" the letter, or whatever else, won't do much good for IAAF.

I don't think there's a statute of limitations for WR and the IAAF statement indicates that the spokesman doesn't think so either. This is part of the rule on recognizing WRs:

Note (ii): If an athlete has admitted that, at some time prior to

achieving a World Record, he had used or taken advantage of a

substance or technique prohibited at that time, then, subject to

the advice of the Medical and Anti-Doping Commission, such

record will not continue to be regarded as a World Record by

the IAAF.

I think everyone here can agree that the total distance covered in China was probably around 2850m, not 3000.

In other words, the track would have to be exactly 380m long.

The naked eye would not be able to tell a 380m track from a 400m track.

I don't think the track was short. At least not that much. You would have had men also running very, very fast. Didn't really see that.

Starting from the wrong line makes the most sense to me, although that seems pretty hard to pull off, so I can't really buy into that fully either.

Lol. It was obvious then, just as it's obvious now that the Chinese women were doped out of their minds. Same with Eastern Europe. Wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese tracks were short as well.

We really should just rip up the men's/women's records and start again. Disband the IAAF and start again from scratch. Cancel track at the Olympics this year while track gets it's house in order. Sucks for those athletes affected, but that's the price to pay for the transgressions of the past. Track is irredeemable at this point and the only way forward I see is to just rip everything apart. Pay the price now or later, but it must be paid.

Or, stop drug testing at all. Let the athletes do what they will. No drug tests equals no drug positives. Current athletes would then be on a level playing field compared to past athletes, especially on the women's side. Current policies are nothing but the fanciful thinking of high-minded old men who want the world to be as they think it should be, not as it actually is.

Britain, which used to rule the world by nefarious means, is now getting trounced by the super powers, notably Russia & China, including in athletic events which used to be their domain. Now that Coe is IAAF president, he's determined to rectify this situation, by what ever means are available. Since they can't win on the track, due to being so lazy and inferior, they'll just create mystery drug accusations with no chance for appeal, remove the medals and even the records.

Britain wants to be back on top again, just like in the good 'ol days.
