Everyone cites this race, but that move was not exactly common. And while I appreciate the bravery, was it really all that thrilling? No one ever got within 4 seconds of Ngugi and he was so far ahead, you couldn't see the real action which was Castro falling apart in the last 100.

Kiplagat might actually be a better pick for the 5k since he is not as much of an 800/1500 guy as Kiprop is, and Kiplagat might even be interested if he can't beat Kiprop in championships.
Of course, if Mo actually is 5-10 seconds stronger than anyone else, not merely as strong but a better kicker, he would still win. But it would at least make him sweat a little if there was a 3:26 or 3:27 guy in the race.

I honestly don't care about the drug allegations anymore I love watching Mo race hes an entertainer. Same thing goes to Dibaba its fun as a spectator to see how fast they can close these races.

Kiprop won World Junior Cross beating Matthew Kisorio, Imane Merga, Samuel Tsegay, Abreham Cherkos etc.
He said at the time that: “I didn’t want to run in cross country but my coach convinced me to run as part of my build-up to the season. I am not sure how I won the race because for me it was a build up and I consider cross country like training for track.”
He's freakishy light and never seems out of breath. I think it's very plausible that a successful winter of increased focus on extending his endurance would see him become utterly formidable at 5000m.
The logic that says he's too quick over 800m to be top class at 5000m is nonsense, Aouita was running 1:43 and sub 13 about thirty years ago and Farah is obviously top class over a huge span of distances.
A shame he didn't win the Olympics in 2012, because a Kiprop with two Olympic titles and multiple world titles may be tempted to move up/double in order to be the authentic Kenyan challenger to Farah.
Why do so many posters feel a need to use MF to empasize things?. I think that is about junior high level talk. Is that really necessary? Is that the way young people really really? I hope not.
Farah was no where near his 5k pr, so not dead at end. OK.
But Dibaba sets pr and world record, not dead at end. This is not normal.
Eaton sets pr and world record, collapses at end. Still breathing hard and trying to recover for a long time afterwards. This is how it should be.

I liked that 1988 race and Komen's WC win. I forget the year.Today's race was disappointing. the best runners did end up 1-4 but I just do not want to watch them run at elite HS pace for 4000. The US did well so that was good.

props for Tom Farrell for keeping it slow for the first few laps setting it up for Mo.
If Tom Farrell had taken it out hard nobody would have gone with him, be real. The Kenyans and Ethiopians knew who the one to watch was, it was all about what Farah did. He went straight to the back of the race at the start, and so dictated the pace. The water station move was to make sure they knew that he was in control, you saw the rest of the field look up at the big screens to see what he was doing. If the big names, or someone like Kojelcha, decided to take it out hard after a steady first lap, Farah would have just moved up a few places as the field followed. At around 3km to go Farah anticipated a move by the big names and moves up just in case, makes his presence known. When Ndiku prevented Farah from taking the lead at 450m to go he stayed calm and changed his tactic, he waited behind for Ndiku to burn out, just making sure he was in striking distance, and then went past at speed off the final bend to shut down any response Caleb could muster. He is a master tactician and not everyone here gives him the credit he deserves.

In 2008, when Mo was 27 y.o. and when he didn't qualify for the 5000m final, his 1500 PB was 3:38. Now at age 33, he closed a 5000m in 3:38 (or was it 3:37?). Maybe faster that he could do a 1500m... (His SB in 2008 was 3:39)...
