That's a very interesting and creative and novel contribution to the thread. I don't think anybody has really suggested that idea in these forums before. Do you have any other insights? Just a guess, but maybe the wisdom in the the "ain't broke don't fix it" idea, while not widely known, has helped you on your trajectory of success. Thanks for sharing.

I would say that based on my perception of her personality, situational familiarity is probably more important than with most other athletes. Furthermore, I wonder if she's really just one of those few athletes who trains better on low mileage than high mileage (like Bernard Lagat).

Oh, you are hurt, I never see you hurt when people make those comments about others or when people make racist comments. How does it feel when it is the one you like?

The two mistakes here are a) don't go all crazy about the future of a high school kid because there are a million variables that can't be predicted so who knows how they will turn out, and b) don't be too quick to write off a teenager because there are a million variables that we can't predict and well.. you get the idea.

She looked very ordinary last night. It wasn't a very strong field but she was never in the race. She did not look like an athlete in very hard training; harping on about female athlete's weight can be dangerous but she did look a bit "podgy" Not enormously overweight but not in lean, mean racing machine shape either.

Needs to end her season now, have a bit of time away from the sport then get ready for a cross country season; good conditioning, slightly less stressful than track where her every race (like here!) will be endlessly scrutinised. Break with Salazar? If he refuses to accept that what they are currently doing is not working she has no choice other than to end the relationship.

This reaffirms why i dont hang out with runners and nerd our silently in the internet.

My complaint has nothing to do with doping or Mary Cain. It has to do with being funny.

what you do in hs really isn't a prelude to how you will do as a pro or collegiate athlete. I'm not going through the names of fast hs females who never seemed to get better and usually much worse through out college…but their are many. I think it takes time and if the pressure doesn't kill her she may come back in a couple years. I'd say for some it can be a curse to have a stellar hs career because the pressures to keep getting better become too much. Between growing and other stresses, it's hard to improve, it takes time. She isn't the first and won't be the last. I do remember Mary Slaney having a tough few years in college and same for Suzy Favor and the likes…they come around.

Is nobody going to discuss her adjusted/altered running form?

Have to agree that mentally, seeing Alex possibly become what you were expected to become, but yet are so far away from now, is messing with her head.

What she is going through is all psychological. Nothing is new anymore. Everything is old and stale. A new sense of life needs to be brought back into her mind. I can help, if she needs to ask.
