When you've just rolled thru 800 in 2:29, theres alot of gas left and a field like that is gonna go and hold from farther out. At 300 to go, and even at the bell, as a 10yr vet he prob knows hes in a bad spot. Should have been farther up.

How fast should have he gone?
Remember CPT has a faster 1500m equivalent this year and he also proved yesterday that he has better 400m speed than Brannen.
Pretty sure that CPR (and Levins, Riva and Rae would have tracked him and then blown by him)

I'm guessing that Brennan, with his experience, understood quite well the problem with this strategy...
The problem is that he is no longer the fastest 400m runner...
He now has to hope that "someone else" keeps the pace honest and he can out kick the top 5 guys when they are not fresh.
He won many times with the old sit and kick strategy. It's now over for him. Not that the other guys are really much better. He has simply slowed down. I'm guessing that he retires this year or next year.
Why is the first 700 of a championship 1500 often slower than the last 800? Seems silly to me.

If you read my post carefully you'll notice i said nothing about taking the lead, nor anything about 800m out or even 500m out.... i do however think if nate had been positioned better on the back stretch @ 300 he had (read: has) the ability to close as fast as any of them . He was simply too far back and forced to maneuver out at velocity that everyone else could also hold given the nature of the race.

The athletes from this race are getting ripped on pretty badly over at the Canadian running forum. A Canadian university coach pointed out that it was the slowest 1,500m final in any country since the 1950's.
I think Athletics Canada needs to do something to prevent this from happening. Imagine if in an NFL game the teams decided to play no-contact for 3 quarters. Fans wouldn't pay for that and the League would step in and harshly punish the teams involved.

Unfortunately, he's no longer a 1:45 800m runner, nor a 5 min 2000m runner.
If he still was, he would have won Nationals (like he did so many times in the past).
