Ben True takes down Sambu, Geoffrey Mutai, Wilson Kipsang at UAE 10k

Great race by True. Hopefully, he will now focus on the track ahead of the WC trials which begin in 3 1/2 weeks. The U.S. 5K squad is going to be tough to make with people like Rupp, Lagat, Hill, Bumbalough, Lomong, Mead, Jenkins, etc. in the mix. Too bad True dislikes the 10K so much. Given how well he has done on the roads, the 10K would seemingly provide him with the best opportunity to make his first WC (or Olympic) track team.

Hill out kicked True for the 3rd spot in the 5K two years ago, behind Rupp and Lagat. It is easy to envision that scenario occurring again. I forgot to include Garrett Heath in the list above. He has been running well this year and will undoubtedly contest the 5K at the WC trials.

Regarding Heath . . . wrong.

He has repeatedly stated in interviews this year he is still focusing on the 1500m.

All winter and spring he said his focus has been on "strength", thus, his running the 4k xc race in January and the US 12k xc champs in February along with the indoor 2m USA champs, then the PJ 5k a few weeks back..

Garrett did admit, however, that he is trending towards becoming a 5k runner but not this year.

His best distance appears to be the 3k so wish he would give the Steeple a go but has never spoken of doing so..

True and Sambu ran 28:13. On the women's side, Joyce Chepkirui edged Gladys Cherono as both ran 32:33.

That is not too bad. Yomif Kejelcha was able to run 28:13 on the road when he had just turned 16 though. Ben True is like twice that old.

Maybe when he is True's age he will be able to break 25:00?
