Heard from one of his teammates at minnesota that he hitch hiked across the USA or some really long distance. This was a couple years ago i am fuzzy on the details. Bit of a wild dude possibly?
He's getting me out of summer school.
Ben was born a poor black girl in Bartlett, Tennessee in 1847. Before the war. Before Twitter. Before FloTrack. Before Freedom.
I can't decide if if the headband and scraggily stringy hair is better or worse than the Will Leer man-bun.
I think man-bun wins.
3:35 still has a long way to go to be a force at 5k
Stillwater has had some really great alumni success. Who are the 4 that are sub 4, Watson, Watson, Graham, and Blakenship? Andy Tate?
Jon Kreuger was 3rd at D3 XC Nats in about 97'. Did Kevin Doe get under 14:00?
Luke Watson and Sean Graham were both in the 5k final at the trials, any other HS have ever have two guys in a trials final?
Another Dbag with a beard and long hair. Hey ben we saw this before with Leer.
Runner claim to be individuals but all follow the same stupid hipster trends.

Long hair don't care. Suck it dude.
Seriously, how many hair and facial hair (or lack of) combinations are there for a guy? If one pro runner has a beard does that mean no others can?
He reminds me of Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses. I kind of like his look...it's a little more unique than the somewhat common man bun that two other pros are wearing (Jager and ... just slipped my mind).

He's the new Will Leer. Goofy hair. Funny guy. Runs good times. Never will make a World or Opympic team. End of thread.
Krahn was injured for quite a while after setting those freshman records (I count the 2M as well, since Verzbicas later re-classified, as per his age).
Jon Gault caught up with Blankehsip for a Q&A this morning:
He will make the U.S. Team. He has been too consistent not to. I have no idea who will be left off the team because I can't see Manzano or Centro not making the team. I also see Wheating and Andrews having great shots.

I'm not sure I follow your arithmetic. You say Blankenship "will" make the team, and you say you see Centro and Manzano making the tea. So that's three people who you say will make the team.
If those three are going to make the team, how can Wheating and Andrew have "great shots" to make the team?
I must be missing something.

I believe he was a high school standout - 4:07 or so for 1600, went to Mississippi State and struggled, then transferred to Minnesota and busted a indoor-leading 3:57 mile at the time, then got second in the 3000 at nationals. He kinda fell off the radar for a while after college (injuries, thought about giving up the sport, etc), but has come back with a vengeance the last couple years. That's about all I know, but I'm a big fan.
I also beat him once in college when he was running for MSU. Not to toot my own horn, but uh - toot toot.
He also missed a large chunk of time after college because he had surgery for a labral tear + FAI. Having had that procedure myself, I know the rehab from it can be quite lengthy. They say you aren't 100% back to normal, mechanics-wise, until about a year after surgery, which was correct for me.
Ben is a great guy and it is fantastic to see him having good results now. He was talented in high school, to be sure, but what was more impressive was how often he was able to beat other super-talented guys. He won the Minnesota state 1600m title two years in a row, beating out guys like Elliott Heath, Rob Finnerty, and Hassan Mead!
Super long-shot that you ever reply to this, but you are talking about the FAI hip impingement surgery. I am a freshman in high school, and ran at a pretty high level in MS (4:49i mile, 9:31 3k, and 16:42 5k at 14yo). Unfortunately I am getting the FAI surgery due to a bad hip impingement, and am going to miss a large chunk of time, including my sophomore fall. Any advice on returning to high level racing and training?
Does anyone not remember his baller move on the anchor leg of the USA DMR team at World Relays? The Kenyan dude came up on him in the first 100 and Ben basically said "go ahead, get in front" and the Kenyan dude took the bait and flew off and ran like 52 for the first lap. Was gassed at the end and Ben zoomed past for the win.

It's wild...I can't find the video either. It's like it has been scrubbed. There are videos of other races from that meet, but not that one.
I did find Lets Run's article on the race...best I can do.
