NCAA champ in all 3 seasons and badass MFer senior year. Olympic silver. Sub 26:50 10k. What is this evidence of coddling? The avoidance of non-Rupp certified courses? Who gives a crap about XC? What is the evidence of crumbling? Getting beat by Lagat? Tough freaking standard.

Rupp is the guy we should all be rooting for. He's the standard.

Cain isn't done, she has gone on hiatus. Everyone knows the greatest rank a US mile running phenom can achieve is BACK. But you cannot be BACK if you are never gone, can you.

The two came together under the wrong premise, which was that her mechanics were inferior. As if that is possible for arguably the greatest female distance runner in US history. It is absolutely ludicrous to have taken such a phenom and essentially said, "you're doing it all wrong. let me show you how to move properly, even though I don't know how myself."

Where she used to be fluid and elastic she is now solid and brittle. The energy used to run through her beautifully in an unconscious sort of way, now it looks like her mind is trying to micromanage her body's movements.

She did pick up a boyfriend since her glory days as a 17 year old. Presumably this is her first real boyfriend and her focus is drifting. No US HS phenoms have fared well in distance running. Even Jim Ryun buckled under the pressure and left the sport.

Clearly the answer her is to dump her BF and re-focus on her top priority: distance running. She'll have time for boys later.

It's a combination of plunging V02 max AND lost efficiency/economy.

Her new rigid running style places O2 demands that she can't deliver.

Distance running favors men and women who have physical development no greater than a teenager.

Women are more prone to taking on a detrimental adult form.

Saw her in her prime and also recently- she IS heavier and curvier. She's just not springing like she used to.

Less wispy would probably be a better way to put it. She's not at all big but will have to learn how to run with a different body than a year or two a go.

+1 on this & Clear view's comment that she looks overtrained/tired. However even though she's a pro, this year is still somewhat like a freshman year of college for her. Pretty much everything is new & that takes some adjusting. Which, of course, doesn't bode well for the 'I want results NOW!' mentality of most.
