just saw on another thread that the course is flooded, with 3-4 races before the varsity men's race the course may be ugly.

It's cross-country, that means it rains sometimes. Paul Short will be messy as well. What's the problem? These are just invitationals, and while at-large points may be at stake it is good to get the opportunity to race in these conditions in case Regionals or NCAA also happen to have similar conditions.

Blue race winner ran 23:30 - he is good, all region last year.
But still, the course must not be in that bad of shape if a fast time like that was thrown down.

So what is the story with the course? Did they have to adjust the course b/c of the weather? The times are ridiculously fast compared to normal.
50 girls at 17:05 or better (running through a bog)? Last year 17:05 was top 5 and those girls went on to top 20 at NCAA's.
Guys B-race in 23:30 with six guys faster than last year's Invite winner?
Heard the 5k course was cut off a little for what it's supposed to be but not sure where. Heard maybe 40-50 meters.
Last year's winner(reigning 10k NCAA Champ) was 16:43, 5th was 17:10 and 50th 17:57.
This year's winner was 16:09, 5th was 16:19 and 50th 17:07. If times are an average of 50 sec faster in flooded conditions, they'd be more like 60-75sec faster in good conditions. Course must be about 300m short.
The course was about 250-300 meters short for both the men's and women's races today. They had to make some changes at the last minute due to rain/flooding.

This is correct. They cut out the flooded corner and it is run multiple times in the race.
Biggest reason for slow times last year was high temperatures with high humidity. This year the temperatures were perfect and only a few spots on the course were in subpar condition. All that being said, it was measured to be around 80 meters short of 8k
interesting as the course is normally a 5 miler so 80m short of 8k is pretty significant if trying to compare times to years past
The adjustment to the course was minor in the far corner but as said before that area was run twice by the ladies and 3 times by the men, we were told by ND staff that it made about a 10m - 15m difference so at worst it was 30m short for the women and 45m short for the men.
There's no way it is only 30m short. That is only 6-7sec for the women. As noted times were like a minute faster than a year ago. That's like 275-300m. The men cross that corner more than the women so would be even shorter yet.
You should look at my previous post. Temperature played the biggest role in the time differences, not the course length. 85 and 90% humidity vs 60 and 40% humidity. Way easier to run faster in perfect conditions

Oops! I looked at your post, but really you need to look at results. If 30m short, that means 15 girls were faster than last years winner and 35 faster than last years 5th. Also means we had a new course record and 15 girls faster than many previous winners that went in to to 5 individual finishes.
I don't see that. Especially since this was not a really strong women's field compared to other years. I believe at least 200.
Did FSU men pick up any KOLAS points by finishing 4th?
