Michigan is the nations butthole. Some great runners have hailed from there, but living there is closer to a jail sentence than anything else.
Last year the winter was long and cold with lots of snow. It was the worst in 100 plus years. Not typical or even close to it. Tons of trails and about 2+ months where it averages some nasty weather, but not every year.Overall, not a bad place to live. Ran at Stoney Creek this morning. Almost 2 hours of really, really cool trails including some decent hills. Detroit is Detroit, but it surely doesn't define Michigan as it's so much more. Believe what you like, but I run and have dozens of opportunities that are safe and decent places to train every day.

Stop telling everyone. They'll all move to Michigan and ruin it.
Um, ever heard of Oregon?
Oregon would be a beautiful place if Eugene was someplace else. I can not look past that shithole.

Sorry:(
Michigan is pretty great, but it is still Minnesota's JV squad.

The D1, D2, NAIA, and high school talent in Michigan is unreal. By far the best running state.
Regarding Michigan and Michigan State women cross country runners coming from Michigan high schools...
From
http://www.flotrack.org/coverage/251663-XC-Countdown-2014/article/27936-XC-COUNTDOWN-1-Michigan-State-Women#.VBmmBVfPsyIThere is so much high school talent from the state on both teams that it would be hard to say that Michigan is not the top producing state for female distance talent in the country at the moment.
You're kidding or jealous, which is it?

I have a real problem with Michigan. When I was a kid I used to go to a place where the Platt River runs into Lake Michigan. Nice place,.. but I was running down one of these mini sand dunes when I got stabbed by some kind of pricker plant. Had developed welts that went away no problem, but then a few days later I had black ooze coming out of wounds, which then formed scabs and then caused scars which I still have on my chest today, 40 years later. I'm sure the love of my life did not marry me because of theses scars. I curse the Apple blossom state
I hear Detroit is beautiful this time of year, and that you can get a time share pretty reasonable.
