Andy Vernon makes Solinsky look emaciated. He has the biggest build out of any top 10k guy I have ever seen. Looks like a guy who would be better suited to the middle distances. Guess you can't judge a book by its cover.

Galen Rupp and his rabbits would have LAPPED that Euro 10k, that's right Rupp would LAP Mo Farah. And I don't even like Rupp. Face it, Farah is done.

No, Farah is not "done" - but he is nowhere near his best form and last night showed why he ducked the Commonwealth Games. It was an utterly predictable race ; I never thought I would get bored watching any middle/long distance race but last night came very close!!

The race confirms everything I said yesterday about the decline of European running. no really world class athletes other than Farah, nobody else really trying to win the race. Did the others really believe they could out kick him in a slow race? Or were they in truth racing for silver from the gun? Compare last night's effort with the Euro Champs 10000 from 1974, '78, '82 and you will get some idea of what I am talking about. It's not the winning time that matters necessarily but the intensiveness, the competitiveness of the race.

Finally, don't expect the 5000 to be any different!

True, Paris 2003 second 5000 well under 13 mins is pretty remarkable, but kenenisa is not a druggie.

Initially he and hermens agreed for him to move up to marathon only after Rio 2016, but for three years he was plagued by calf injuries. At some points during this three-year struggle kenenisa thought he may have to retire, so persistent was the injury. This influenced their decision to move to the marathon earlier than initially planned.

Point is: a doping kenenisa is out of the question. It was the right decision for him to move to the roads. This is the last area where he's yet to match Geb's exploits.

Lastly, Geb in his prime (say, 1998) could have beaten Mo pretty much at his best. Tergat, not so sure.

Yes maybe Geb might have been able to beat Mo in a championship 10000m but that is only two runners in the history of the sport capable of beating Mo in a championship race when all were at their best possibly 3 if you count Jeilan. Saying Mo is champion in a weak era is rubbish.

Mo was clearly struggling last night and I would not be surprised if he does not win the 5000m. Looks like he might struggle for the remainder of the season based on that performance. If Vernon did not have to go wide to pass lapped runners at the start of the last lap it would have been close. I bet he ran a faster last lap than Farah as he started further back and had to go wide.

With regards to Bekele, Ethiopia has 0 out of competition for athletes. Bekele can just stay in Addis and never get tested. In contract Mo has constant out of competition tests even when he is in Kenya. Bekele runs the second half of a 10k in under 13 minutes and is clean yet mo has a PR of 12:53 for 5k and is dirty? Complete nonsense and double standards. If Mo is dirty Bekele most certainly is. Dodgy agent, no drugs testing, runs second half of a 10000m faster than the world record was for 5000m until 1994 and according to Lets Run idiots Mo is much more likely to be dirty than him. Laughable.

He looked really looked like he was muscling hard that last lap. Even the guy he beat looked much smoother.

Did not say it was evidence of anything mereley pointing out facts and that there is just as much reason to suspect Bekele as Mo for doping. And there is at the most two or three runners in the history of the sport that would beat Mo in a championship 10000m when all at their best. People say that Geb or Tergat would not let the race go slow but it is unlikely either would run away from Mo in a race with no pace makers. What is the world record for a race with no pacers? Slower than 2646 I would bet. This is not a weak era of distance running it just does not have a Geb or Bekele at their best. It is like saying the 100m is weak if Bolt stopped competing.

hermens has long been rumored to dope his athletes

there was that infamous case where he sent the german athletes to a spanish doping doctor, the matter only came to light inadvertently

so he's clearly familiar with the doping network

and of course he stands to gain big $$$$ from his small epo investment in bekele

This ^^^ if he's "back" and is showing he's the "best" in the world then why is he stating that he wished that race went a little slower? Do you really think Geb, Kenny, Tergat would say that? And he closed in a 54.4, that's great, but not top of the world right now...

Caleb just closed 54.11 off of a 13:10-13:20 pace race, Gebremeskel and Gebrehewit have closed 54 in a 12:46-47 race, and Alamerew has been dropping 53 last laps almost every DL meet the past 2 years...

Farrah just ran 28:08, Salazar has said that Mo and Galen do some of their lactate tempo 10k's at 28:00, why would the best runner in the world complain about a pace slower than his training tempo run?? And 54.4? Still that's great, but those milliseconds still make a huge different and there's plenty of guys who could beat him right now

10k not as much, but if he were in a flat out 5k right now, he would get destroyed... I'd be surprised if he broke 12:55...

Agree that right now he is not the best in the world after his illness. Nidiku was not that impressive at the CG games though. For someone in supposedly in 1250 shape it did not look that easy for him to win that race.

I think what mo was meaning was that he would have liked to run a faster last lap but would have preferred a slower race overall. That's fairly understandable for someone clearly struggling right now in his first race back with the 5k still to come. He did not look great though would not be surprised if he gets beat in the 5k.

Although mo is a chronic sit and kicker it doesn't take anything away from his achievements. The only place it matters being in the lead is crossing the finish line. No prizes for leading most of the race, only wining it. Farah has the ability to be that person in so many races and that's why he is up there with the best. Anyone who thinks otherwise on here are watching different races to me because I don't understand why he wouldn't be one of the greatest!
