Todd Williams recently finished his second degree in black belt of Ju jitsu. He has a company about running safe, and does speaking engagements. If you want to call Todd a nit wit to his face, I'm sure it would have an interesting outcome.
His class was not only a great source of defense training, but he is a great motivational speaker too.
The "Nitwit" this is a term of endearment, I'm certain. Todd is still revered here in Southwest Michigan, as he should be!

I don't think Dameworth qualified all 4 years. May have been a year he did not run the regional? However, I think he is the only 4 time CA state CC champion, which is very impressive. He also won Kinney his senior year - 89. What ended up happening with him in college? Wisconsin? Guy was a monster in HS. 90-100 mile weeks. Big tall build. Injuries got him I'm guessing?
Jorge Torres qualified all 4 years - mid 90s. The only male to ever do so?
there's so many that I thought would do massive damage after hs...andy maris...dameworth...matt davis...dijoseph...priorities change...people change...life gets in the way.
Does anyone actually know where Eric Henry is?
And he ran it in Trainers!!!

Saw Eric a few years ago when I was in the woodlands and the high school guys were running one of their home meets. For a short time he was an assistant coach at McNeese State in Louisiana. He lives in Kentucky now I believe.
Coach use to say Eric was the heaviest man to ever break 4 mins in the mile (while at Arkansas) at 190 lbs. Not sure how much truth there is to that but it wouldn't surprise me. Eric is still a BIG dude.
paul is a good cyclist, too. wrote:

Andy Maris - the pre-Solinsky.

LOL. Do we think he ran it in trainers?
In the early 2000s he was in the DC area. Heard he was a sub-4:00 miler, and thought, "yeah, right".

tim martin theo martin jim cera all went to NAU
Williams is actually doing instruction at a running safety clinic that the Hanson's are hosting here in SE Michigan on this coming Tuesday.
I ran the year the Steiner kid won. It was the first year, and not all the best in the country ran that first one. I finished in the middle. After that I ran some in college but never really had my heart into running anymore. I managed to run 13:58 for the 5K.

Cliff Dwelle (Lake Orion, MI) made it as a freshman? I was from Michigan about that time and I don't recall ever hearing that name. Did he ever go on to accomplish more in running?
Cliff Dwelle ran 4:10-11 in the 1600m as a junior or senior at State Meet (1986) beating Todd Williams (who had been undefeated in the State that year in XC, indoor and outdoor). Todd ran about 4:12/9:12 that year I think (his junior track season).
This spoiled Todd's attempt at a double win, but I believe he got it the next year?
I think I have everything square there? Not trying to smear anyone, just fill you in on Cliff Dwelle.
That was a State Record for the State Meet 1600m, even though Steve Elliott had run 4:07y in the 70s.
Poor Eric Henry is about 300 lbs.

John mcdonnell said Henry had a propensity to put on weight. He beat me in a mile race at Arkansas. I still weigh 145.

I think Marc Davis was the first male runner to qualify for Kinney every year in high school.
Rueben Reina is a physical therapist now. Bob Kennedy owns a running store franchise, Mark Mastiler has a major job in promotions for a major Professional Sports team.
The last I heard Marc Dani was working in computers as a systems analyst in Wall Street.

George Kersh is a school teacher in his home town of Pearl, MS. He has a son who was an All-American triple jumper and a daughter who is a half-miler at Miss State.
The first year Kinney was a race that all the best in the country made sure to run was 1985. That was also the first year ESPN covered it on television. The year Ruben Reina set the still standing Balboa course record of 14:36.
I do recall seeing the winners in the Sports Illustrated "Faces in the Crowd" back page when Matt Guisto won in 1983 and that was the first time I heard of the event.
It was the first legitimate high school national championship for any sport but it took 7 years before it became known as such to every high school cross country coach.
But from the start the best high school runner found out about it even being from Kansas. 16 years before the internet.
The Kinney people had to have done some recruiting that first year.

Rupp's indoor 3000m AR last year and his 10,000m AR at the Pre Classic this year don't count?
They definitely count. His 10,000 at Prefontaine has got to be the best performance for a non-African immigrated American distance runner. But has Rupp won race against world class runners outside of the United States outdoors?
Davis did.
