In 3, 2, 1...
Webb is back, baby!
Thanks very much for the info. It is fun to see him doing so well so quickly in the triathlon, which I have had little interest in since Lance was allowed to compete.
His early swim training must really be standing him in good stead, because he has been very close to the top people on the swim, which is very rare for good runners new to the sport. Good luck to him!

This race was great to see Alan bringing his skills on the bike/swim as he is just getting back into running (note 14 secs behind Brownlee's finish) - after a needed break from running (post- Milrose). He has done minimal for speed work and just putting a heavy emphasis on the swim/bike which is great to think of his future potential. Congrats Alan!!
This is actually pretty good, especially if he was not prepared to race that day. I also know that it takes a couple of years for your muscles to fully adapt to running off of the bike. The main thing for me is if Webb, (the original Webb) is enjoying the journey. - Thanks for the post.
I should have said that I have had little interest in the tri since Lance was no longer allowed to compete.
This thread makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, #TeamWebb.

Did Lance Armstrong ever "compete" in the triathlon?
Seems like he was decent at ironman but not one of the best
He's 42 now, not like he'd be that great now anyways

Thanks, Julia! I can't wait to see what Alan pulls for his last mile in the Titan mile!
You're a runner too, right? Saw your steeplechase comment in another thread. Racing any lately?

This is just insulting. She has qualified for/run in multiple US National meets!

No insult meant! I noticed she qualified for at least one US Championship when I Googled her after she said she was a steeplechaser. Very athletic family!

Yes. He was a triathlete before a cyclist. At 16, Lance Armstrong became a professional triathlete and became national sprint-course triathlon champion in 1989 and 1990 at 18 and 19.
Clearly, running after the swim and off the bike is way different than just running, and I'm guessing that Webb's current training is somewhat de-emphasizing the run given his background. That said, for Webb to be competitive at Olympic distance triathlons, he'll need to dominate the run. He can't afford to be the 6th fastest guy in the run, he needs to be the fastest person on the run like Gwen Jorgenson.
I'm impressed with Webb's willingness to start over in this sport. That has to be mentally challenging after having been so dominant in running. That identity shift takes fortitude to make.
Note: Webb's 4:39 mile was just 15 seconds faster than Jorgenson's split for the same leg, and he was pushed every step of the way while she wasn't. That won't do. His swim, however was superb.

baby
remember he had a meltdowm because he couldn't play the piano after like one lesson
that was cool

The German guy (Buchholz), which he basically tied with, is ranked 15th in the world. We will see this weekend how Webb does against Kyle Jones, who is currently ranked 41st in the world. The race will be a semi Olympic distance.
Anybody notice that Buchholz (the guy that Webb tied with in the relay) came third at the WTS triathlon today in Stockholm?

Did not see that but that is good news. I can't find anything about Webb's next event. Julia Webb has not undated their planned events on her blog lately and I can't find a calendar or indication anywhere else.
