Yes I understand she's just an 18yr old girl, but Mary Cain's interviews are getting somewhat silly

She was just being sarcastic as it was obviously within minutes of the race... I don't think it's anything to do with her age. 18 is an adult anyway. I don't see anything wrong with her interview.

Seems that for some posters the perfect interviewee is the barbie doll looking girl runner who gives the standard pat answers....that's so boring! Mary Cain keeps it loose and likes to joke around during the interviews...definitely out the box which might be too much for some people to handle.

I'll chip in to say that the only two people I can think of immediately who are interesting in interviews are Simpson and Cain - they don't go to the sports platitudes - they try to cut the bs and just be themselves.

Cain clearly has fun when adults beg her to talk - she takes them to cainland and has fun with it.

Simpson tries to give a little, honest piece of herself in interviews - which is great.

But from what I have read, that gets old and you start losing your sense of self and 'owning' yourself. You start stretching for new truths and wind up forgetting exactly who you are.

John Updike rarely gave interviews for that reason - he wanted to keep it inside.

Mary's fabulous. Very refreshing. The OP has a blighted soul.

I agree that her age and lack of maturity shows in her interviews, but I've never heard her say something I wouldn't hear a normal 18 year old say.

That being said, as a HS phenom and with her bursting onto the pro scene, she has had a lot of camera time over the last two years and sooner than later the "she's only 18" excuses will cease to justify this.

For now, as an 18 year old who just got silver at USA's, she can say whatever she wants as long as she doesn't offend anyone.

Actually, she can say whatever she wants at any age and regardless of whether or not it offends anyone.

Lauren Fleshman is media savvy. Jenny Simpson and Emma Coburn give thoughtful interviews as well.
