Isaac Wood hired by Weber State

expect Flotrack to feature Weber State during their Wednesday Workouts features every other week.

This being my first, ever, post on letsrun.com I don't know if I should thank you for the shout outs or what. But, you are giving me credit for way too much buddy. I just learned about this thread about a half hour ago.

Anyway, you guys should probably know who you are addressing before addressing someone.

Isaac seems like a great kid with tons of knowledge about running. But to call him one of the best recruiters in the nation is a huge stretch? Has he recruited anyone yet? What I understand is that he was hired to help coach, not to spearhead the recruiting efforts but I could be wrong.

I truly wish him the best though and hope to see what he can do to help both the men and womens team get better.

We'll see what he can pull with Weber's lackluster roster. One can recruit easy with FSU women's talent for 3 months but when stuck in the "ghetto of Utah" I think it will be another story recruiting-wise...

To you Davis people: it's over. Talley didn't get it. Grow up and stop complaining (especially you, Anderson). He didn't get it because isn't a coaching position! It's a recruiting job and he has no experience recruiting.

Recruiting position or not, everyone at Weber State who has ran with Corbin knows that he was the, hands down, no-brainer choice for the position. Below are Talley's credentials as a HS coach:

Boys Cross Country State Champions – 2007

Girls Cross Country State Champions – 2007, 2008

Girls Cross Country Team finished 9th at Nike Nationals in 2007

NFHS Utah Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year – 2007

You don't win state meets by being mediocre at recruiting.

3 Time All-Conference Cross Country at Weber State

3 Time All-Conference Track & Field at Weber State

NCAA Qualifier in the Steeplechase in 2002 (8:47 pr)

Utah Road Racing Circuit Champion – 2003, 2005

Marathon PR – 2:21.31 (St. George 2003)

Finished 49th in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon

1st Place – Sedona Marathon (2006); Course Record

Finished 12 marathons and 5 ultra marathons (goal of 100 marathons in lifetime)

Completed the 2009 Wasatch 100

Talley ran for Weber, some of his athletes went on to run for Weber. This was an easy decision...and they got it wrong.

Actually, He has 18 State Championships. Who knows how many 2nd place. Over 30 region titles. Hasn't lost a region meet since he started. 2 Top 3 finishes at NXN. And 11th, 12th, 13th and 17th at NXN. One individual National Champion. 4 x 800 meter relay National Champs. This years Girls XC team is ranked 11th best in US History.

if Weber is looking for someone to fill the void that is recruiting, then Talley was the person for that position.

The # of athletes currently running for a Utah college that went to Davis is:

Weber: 3

BYU: 4

Utah State: 5

UVSC: 4

...and the current state record holder for the 400 who will go to a Utah school

All in all, Talley has around 17 current athletes that compete collegiately. So, how is he not qualified to recruit at the college level?

He is implying that you are saying Corbin is strong at recruiting, as in recruiting illegally as a high school coach. Learn your Utah HS rules.

People really?! If you are still talking about this you need to get a life. The decision isn't going to change.

Both dudes would have been fine. Neither are going to run the program so get off it already.

Nobody cares what either Isaac or Corbin HAS done. It's all about what WILL be done. Isaac gets a shot, if he's as bad as all the Corbin fans out there say the. What's got you so uptight,? Won't that mean he will be getting the job as soon as Isaac fails? He is a terrible choice right?

Ha, you say Corbin Talley has no RECRUITING experience, but really he does, because he is the head coach at a prevelent 5A school, so it is given that he will talk to kids around the are about running for his team, it definitely happens, weather people will admit it or not, same with American Fork

This will be more of his thing. As an athlete I would have found it hard to take Isaac seriously as a coach. He has great personality and works hard so he does a good job with recruiting but I wouldn't have wanted him writing my workouts necessarily.

I know there has been a lot of hate thrown his way by the Weber State camps the past week because he is leaving a coaching job to take a scum of the earth director of operations position at the school they all hate. But he loves BYU and Ed Eyestone and he is more fitted to be a D.O.than a coach. And I heard he is probably doubling his salary by making the switch. Seems like a no brainier. So Weber people, get over yourselves. I think most people would want to be the D.O. At BYU instead of the recruiting coach at Weber especially considering the pay.

Agree with this. Woody is a great guy, awesome recruiter and loves the sport. I think he loves BYU and has an awesome relationship with Eyestone. Why wouldn't he want to go back to his alma mater? I don't understand the hate ... definitely a great move for him career-wise (especially if it is indeed a big pay bump).

Whadaya know? It worked out for both of them in the end! Now Talley is head coach at Weber doing what he should do and isaac is the ops guy at BYU doin what he should do
