Coach James Li interviewing for Washington State

Here is the deal. Li is a great assistant coach and a really nice guy to boot. He will never be a great Head Coach b/c he just doesn't have the personality for it. It isn't a bad thing, just the way he was made. Some people do a better job as a #2 or a right hand man. Simple as that.

What it does is invalidate your point - you said Ritz had a faster 5k PR when Mo began with Salazar - that is incorrect.

Ritz DID have a faster 5k PR when Mo began working with Salazar.

Ritz ran 12:56 in 2009

Mo began working with Salazar in early 2011 when he had a 5k PR of 12:57

12:56 is faster than 12:57 last I checked

As much as you'd all like to see a distance head coach at Wazzu, it's a horrible decision. The Pac-12 is the best distance conference in the country. Even with Kenyans, WSU will still fail to beat the distance powerhouses. If Li gets the job, he better hire some great assistant coaches.

WSU competed with the great distance runners in the 70's and 80's during Oregon's suppose glory days (i.e Prefontaine) and they destroyed all records and broke every long-distance world record under John Chaplin.

Hopefully they retain Coach MacDonald for sprint/hurdles because his athletes have constantly performed well against Pac-12 competition.

They are replacing Sloan. Not like he has a load of personality. I don't know that there is a more disliked coach in the northwest.

Not personality that makes you have a lot of friends, personality that can lead men into battle. Li's presence doesn"t command the respect of the troops per se. Awesome and great on a one on one, but to lead 120+ athletes......not so sure. Just my opinion though. He could end up being a real azz kicker when it comes to leadership.

Wondering if anyone's heard what's going on with the Washington State job. Li was allegedly offered the job, but the Cougs low-balled him on pay.

The associate head coach at New Mexico, Rodney Zuyderwyk is supposedly in the running--he has WSU connections.

I'd think long and hard about going to Pullman to compete for the Cougs, especially if I've been recruited by their current staff. I'm sure they're good people, but what's the chances of them being around, no matter who is hired as the head coach?

WSU had almost a whole year to hire someone after Rick Sloan announced his retirement, and they still have no one--that's Couging' it for you!
