Unbelievable: Yuki Kawauchi smashes world record with his 2nd sub-2:10 in 14 days, 5th 2:10:00 or better on year!!

I'm not really sure why everyone finds this so amazing. It's that kind of thinking that holds Americans back at this distance. I agree that Kenyans do this all the time in training. Some can handle it some can't. It seems like Yuki can handle. We'll certainly know over time. I'm not really sure if he has a much faster marathon in him than his PR if he peaked for it. I'm just not sure that I think that he does. His right arm and leg swing all over the place (at least they do in the vid posted) but maybe that's what's most efficient for him.

Potentially of interest here is that his eight fastest marathons of the year were each faster than the corresponding eight fastest marathons by Americans.

I think that it is funny how so many people are saying he is just going to get injured because of all this racing. Meanwhile the top americans run 2 marathons a year and spend much more time injured than Kawauchi.

Makes you think that maybe it isn't the races that are causing injuries but something in training…

(Also, even if he does get injured, he's run sub 2:10 enough times to call it a great career. Who cares if he did it in 1 year or spread it out over 5 years. Every runner gets injured)

This shows us how our minds can limit us. Proves what we can do if we believe in ourselves. He is an amazing athlete. But I am wondering if this was a Kenyan or African, would we be idolizing him or blasting him on how much drugs he's taking.

He runs to be competitive , to give his best every time out. Unlike americans who have to go pro , get a contract , not race at international levels , afraid to die on the course. He sets his own rules.

Japanese athletes have self/national pride , please show when the last time a Japanese athlete tested positive, zero !

No, Kenyans do not do that all the time, in fact almost never. Lel, Limo and Kiprono top out there long runs at 35-38k.

At first I was really excited about the great "Citizen Marathoner," but now I hardly raise an eyebrow as he turns in performance after performance below his abilities. The waste of talent is moronic.

You'd think a guy we're supposed to love for fitting a marathon career around working full-time would be a lot smarter about training and racing, and actually do something memorable once or twice a year.

All of that annoying grimacing and repetitive collapsing doesn't make him tough. It makes him a female high school XC runner.

Kawauchi ran 2:09:15 today in Japan just two weeks after running 2:09:05. He previously held the world mark for quickets sub-2:10s at 42 days.

For the year, that's 11 marathons for Yuki. 4 sub-2:10s and another at 2:10:00.

For all the people who think Africans run sub 2:10 every week: really? How come nobody else is racing as much as Kawauchi, then? You'd think that 2:08 Kenyans would take that monthly paycheck rather than supposedly doing 2:10 marathons for free every week.

Biggest waste of talent is LetsRun.com. No other community is full of as many with 150+ IQ's, six-figure salaries, and 14:xx 5Ks (a great athletic accomplishment) who still manage to be absolute LOSERS in everyday life. Every time xfitguy says women don't want runners, I'm convinced he's right - not because they find their bodies unattractive, but because who would want to spend time with the delusional men-children of LetsRun? NO ONE, that's who.
