Jonesey's best 4 marathons average just under 2:07:59, and that was from 26 to 30 years ago. What a great runner.

48 - or Martin Rees now (http://www.athleticsweekly.com/coaching/how-they-train-martin-rees/). Assuming his HM puts him inside 2:30 (at 60+!), then his idea of a recovery run is because of the distance, rather than necessarily the pace.
I've tried different training approaches over the last few years (late starter and uncoached = loads of curiosity on approaches) and have found that a decent volume with decent intensity works better for me than more miles a bit easier. Celtic blood (I'm Irish)? :)
I'm impressed that he was never afraid to RACE. Something this generation could learn from. The guy had guts, something I don't see in today's best runners.
This is one of my favorite cheesy running clips featuring none other than Jonsey:

You know, someone should just ask him...
I never tire of watching that clip!
I missed part of my sentence yesterday (late and tired). It was supposed to say - I'm Irish, and when I used to run as a kid I trained with some of the seniors whose general modus operandus was to just get on with it and not faff around (i.e. it's not just atypical of the Welsh).
Of course no idea if that's still the trend there now though.
Great links Hodgie-san. Cheers.
There seems to be a general trend with some of the 80s British runners then.
I also liked Cerutty's link that was posted in another thread:

I guess it's a discussion for another thread, but it just looks like there has been a move towards trying to do more mileage with less effort or less mileage full stop with that bit in the middle (solid mileage and solid intensity) missing.........
Bouncing for malmo as promised/requested.
Stayed with Steve out in Boulder never talked about his training except the secret he used "put my shoes outside the door at night, just got up and went, its not rocket science" quote.
Which is all well and good to say, but he didn't go out and aimlessly run, so there must have been some reasoning behind what he did when.
Welsh Iron just a quick line just thought I would let you know if you are near Cardif.Steve Jones is talking tonight @ 7:45pm Sophia Gardens Cardif cf11 9sw,finishes @ 9:15pm sorry its late just been reading this thread.Ps Nat muir was a fast trainer just like Steve.

Will do malmo, and stories like that are why he's a legend - I think my legs would explode if I tried to run fast right out the door :)
It is official. Jonesy said he would cooperate and provide a full year of training to remove all doubts about how he actually trained. We've designated Hodgie-san to be the official archivist of the Jonesy Training Manifest.
He did confirm the Paul Cummings story, and added a little more color to it.
A little teaser. The most Jones ever ran in one week was 145 miles. He did it with Steve Binns and David Murphy.
I'm as excited to see this as you are, so be patient.
Wow, that is absolutely awesome malmo!!! Thank you :)
This is going to be epic! :) :)
Bump for malmo/Hodgie-San to see if either have any updates please?

Yeah, I got an update. Hodgie was supposed to followup with Jonesy. Jonesy was going to supply an entire years worth of training logs, only the mild-mannered Hodgie-san didn't follow up.

I don't think Jonesy is committed to the project. I have asked him if he was willing to share his training diary a number of times.
OK Hodgie. You're off the hook. Merry Christmas!
We'll hunt down Jonesy next year.
Cheers for the updates chaps.
It would be a shame if he changed his mind :(
