How fast could Michael Johnson have run after 11 laps? At tempo pace? Even at a jog. And even if you bring it down to 2 or 3 laps, could he have approached 43?

What do my PRS have to do with how impressive his final 400m is? If Farah ran a 50.x from the blocks, would you be so impressed? Because that's basically what he did here.
I'm not necessarily doubting this. But if its so easy to go sub 50, why do I never hear about Rupp and Farah going sub 50 in practice? I get it that they mostly do speed work while tired. So I can see how Farah could do 49, maybe 48 while fresh. I can also understand how if they wanted to train to be 400M runners they could run well under sub 50. But it seems absurd the premise that they hardly ever practice going sub 50 seconds. Then assert that they can rub sub-50 no problem with converse shoes.

The wind alone is worth .64 and the fatigue something similar. Add .5 for start deduct .64 x 2 and you are close to 50 flat. Add on that it was colder than ideal for a sprint and all best 400m times are run in middle lanes and he is dipping 50
For those who think 50.89 is not that impressive after such a slow race find a faster finish in any 5km race. There can't be many which is why he is double Olympic Champio and nearly got the WC double. It's not luck!

Why is this even news? Didn't Morceli close in 51 in a 13:03 race and Lagat closing in 51 in a 12:59 race which was way more impressive.
