The "way around it" is to follow the rules, which they apparently did to the letter.

As two previous posters said, it's not a violation because she was on Oregon's campus. You can talk to a junior if they visit your campus on their own (meaning it's not an official visit paid for by the school). They could not have talked to her at a high school meet or diamond league meet held elsewhere. But, being that the meet was on Oregon's campus, that's the one loophole that puts them within the rules. Pretty sure they cannot call her on the phone before July 1, but they can send her mail.

There are NCAA violations that occur at every college almost everyday. Have no illusions as to what goes on. It's all crooked and coaches find ways to bend the rules when others aren't looking. I have witnessed a coach at a large Florida school have recruits do workouts with the team, which is a huge violation. It happens everyday and everywhere.

Even if they were not on Oregon's campus, Coaches are still allowed to have "incidental contact" with juniors. So basically if you happen to bump right into them you can talk to them. Of course, it happens more than you would expect it to by coincidence. But Powell is fine in this case.

That said, Oregon is a major violator of recruiting rules. They have brought Nike agents to campus that hint to recruits that there can be some financial incentive post-college if they go to Oregon.

Oregon isn't even above recruiting athletes from other college teams. They just do so in very discrete ways. And people can say it happens at every school, but not at the level that I've heard of it happening at Oregon.

So you've "heard" these things happen and that's enough to come on here and definitively say they are true?

The meet on was on University of Oregon's property.

I talked with many coaches before July 1 of my senior year on their campuses.

Walter Brattain was Whitman College (Walla Walla, Washington) class of 1924.

Her first years as any younger athlete running in the pro's learns will not be easy. There are no absolutes , just the promise and hope of holding together and making it. Will she break open records , US records , will she reach a certain and thats it ?

College will give her the team element , a shot at breaking college records and helping win team championships that she can look back on.

Going pro early does not always work , talk to Mr. Webb about it now.

When someone directly tells me Oregon reached out to them, yes that is enough for me. Understandably, it's probably not enough for you. And let's bring up a very obvious example: Trevor Dunbar. Clearly Oregon reached out and offered him a scholarship while he was still at Portland.

The Powells were within the rules talking to Cain, but the question remains why Oregon has not let Andy and Maurica go. Andy Powell is borderline retarded and is nothing but a lot of hype with little substance.

She does not need Oregon (the team or the school), Oregon needs her. Cain should go to Stanford and compete as a pro.

Look it up. Absolutely no rules were broken. For those of you that imply Oregon Track and Field breaks rules all the time, back it up with proof, not just your uneducated opinion. This site is mostly whiney, old lady gossipers. This is the age of the internet. look shit up. It's all there. Oregon did not break a rule.

With all this talk of Stanford this and Stanford that, it's my take you guys are a bunch of Stanford rejected wanna be's. With posts like yours, I can just imagine how hard the admissions office laughed when they got your transcripts.

The majority of Ph.D's get them from school's other than where they got their 4 year degrees...

First, there's nothing "obvious" to an objective analyst about Trevor Dunbar.

Second, because some anonymous coach in OK believes something, you take it as fact? Really? Have you no mind of your own?

So just to clarify: people are hating because they got rejected from Stanford? That sounds like the logic of an Oregon grad!
