She is basically the Natalie Gulbis of ladies running. Which is a good thing, and FINE. The fact she is not likely ever to challenge the Africans does not mean she isn't a great runner or can't have lots of fans.
hasay is the anti-Sheila Reid. Hasay doesn't win enough races. She'll get a Nike contract because she is so famous, but what is going to do as a pro? unless she gets down to 15:10 or so she's on the B circuit in europe. it will be interesting to see how she handles the come-down from queen of it all for eight years to also ran.
Pretty sure Hasay will make it as a pro. Look in just her 2nd 10 K race she got the number 4 all time 10 K mark in College Track and field history behind only 2 kenyan's and Lisa Uhl. Not to shabby if you ask me. A 40 second improvement in just her 2nd 10 K is outstanding. It seems to me that the only people that can beat Hasay are foreigners right now.

Are you kidding me?! Runners, boy do they have low standards. Unless Hasay develops a rack, she is no Gulbis.
Ha ha. Was talking more about their personalities and overall likability. In addition to being attractive, Natalie is well known to be very friendly and unassuming.

Umm making it as a pro and beating the foreigners are kinda related. If she can't beat foreigners, I wouldn't consider her made as a pro, she's just good for an American. But I guess all that stuff is debatable.
Regardless, huge PR for Hasay, glad she's finding her place in the longer distances.

yeah but the 10k is not a marketable distance. she'll have to race at 5k to make any money, and her 15:37 pr just isn't competitive. maybe this 32:06 implies she can get down to 15:25...still not competitive against foreigners.
but she continues to improve which is great - not many teen phenoms keep steady improvements. Say she goes to salazar this summer and gets to 15:15 without late night studying...that is possible I suppose.
What does 32:06 roughly convert to in a 5K?

Unfortunately, Hasay just missed the B World Champs qualifying standard of 32:05
I do not think that this was a 'peak' race for her. It was an important development race to see where she is and to give her experience with pacing and determining when she should up the effort. Given that she was rolling known runners in the last mile or so is a good sign.
I would not be surprised if her PR by the end of the year is 31:30; more than that will take pushing through bit by bit (no big drops after 31:30). She can probably hit 15:20s now but is probably not really worried about speed until she needs to up her level for the Trials.

Sure, she's a very good runner. She's not the best, but she's very good. As for the "she's a great person" stuff, OK, whatever, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I've never seen her try to kill anybody during an interview, so she must be OK.

I'm sure they're all nice, too, and make good grades, and are a credit to their universities. Maybe they don't look quite as young, waifish, innocent, blond-haired, blue-eyed, in need of your manly protection. Give me a break, the only posts I ever see about her on here are related to distance running (which is more than I can say for most threads on here). And if you have to be a likely Olympic champ to be deserving of a thread, then we should probably stop posting about just about everyone in the entire world. A simply thread about a #4 all-time performance is hardly overreacting.
I am past the groupie stage (and groupie age) by a long ways. I was just trying to project where I think she might be given her races, her comments before races and the observations from several others.
She is bright, she is attractive, etc., which will likely help her get sponsorship; however, that does not matter for the primary issue of how will she continue to develop in the increasingly competitive US distance running 'universe'.
Not sure that she will make an Olympic or WC team, but her best chance of making an Olympic/WC Final is in the 10,000 (no heats).
Seriously can you all be that dense? This is why Jordan Hasay will get a 6 figure contract from Nike the second she graduates....

It is all about marketability. Hundred of thousands of young female runners look up to her. Her endorsement on products is a gold mine for the Swoosh!
If Nike is smart, they'll put out a Hasay men's shoe for all her fanboys.
All of you whiners need to remember one thing...
She's still ONLY 21.
She's got about four years to reach her peak. She's been consistently at or near the top since she was like 12. She is one of the most consistent performers, male or female, ever. Saina beat her by 30 seconds and is four years older.
Get her with Salazar or some other top-level coach and if she continues to progress, she'll be one of the US' top females.
