He never looked stressed in his 3:40, so I suspected a 3:36/37 was in the cards for his next race; I admit that I didn't see a 3:34 coming this soon. What's really refreshing is that I don't see him as a miler, it's going to be interesting to see what he can do when he races up in distance. Before he calls it a season, I would like to see him get the 5k WC standard out of the way.

Running from the back as he did shows he still has a ways to go in understanding international class racing. He needs to stick his nose in it a tad more , put himself in position , to at least compete. View the race you will see.
He has been running as miler to date , lets see if he make the shift up as you say. Is he a sub 13 minute guy ?
All said this is great experience for him to be racing at this level in Europe , bodes well for his future.

German is the Spanish version of Herman. G in that location in a Spanish word is pronounced like H in English. Of course so few people get that that I think German gave up and pronounced like we say the name of the language at this point. It's a fairly common name among Spanish speaking folks.

German is 21 years old. Will turn 22 in November.
He seemed to waste a lot of energy in the first 300, yet still pulled off a 55-56 last 400. He could well be in sub-3:34 fitness right now. Looking for sub-7:35 in hte upcoming 3000. 7:32 on a REALLY good night.

His 3:34.6 is roughly the equivalent of a 7:39.x . Dreaming of a 7:32 at this stage (or even a 7:35) is just dreaming. If he breaks 7:40 it will be a HUGE PR and a fantastic harbinger of big things to come next year.

1500 has always been his best event? I think 13:25 as a freshman is more impressive than 3:39. The fact that he can run this fast as a 5000m/10000m runner already is just testament to his raw talent. Rupp better watch out. I would not be surprised at all if he breaks 13 in the next year if his healthy. Is it too ambitious to ask for an American record from him in 2014? No championships and just chasing fast times. If he had stayed consistent in college he probably would have broken 13:10 by now.

You're an idiot. The right thing to do was run from the back I'm a race that goes out in 1:50. Unless you're a 3:28 or faster 1500 runner, that's not a pace to follow. Hence why he was picking off the slubs who went out too hard. You don't understand racing period. It's not about being near the front for half the race, fading and running 3:38. It's about giving yourself the best shot to win, and he did that perfectly.
...anyway you look at it, it's the 4th fastest 1500m by an American this year. He has never been ranked so high (outdoors) in his career and he is quite close to 2nd and 3rd. The best race of his life... Only 0.14 slower than Centro last year.
Very well done...
And no, he should not have been 3rd or 4th at 800m. He is not a 3:30 racer yet...
