Dude, thanks for the support! Sometimes I'm afraid I've forgotten more than I can remember about running, here in MI, there and everywhere.

Stanford 47
Wisconsin 107
Eastern Michigan 165
Colorado 190
How's that for a geography lesson?
First off, I am not associated with either university although one of my best friends finished school at EMU while I was at BGSU (many moons ago), and I now live in Colorado.
Starting from the start, this whole thread is out of context simply because Wetmore was referring to an individual - Torres, and the potential individual challengers (including Boaz). I'd say his remarks were straight shooting, not smack since he was only saying my guy's ready, your guys better be. Boaz for his part was quoted as saying he was going to Terre Haute to "punish" the rest of the challengers, a bit more smack-talkie there if you ask me. But I guess it's all in your perspective. Regardless, spouting off the team result's using Wetmore's quote is out of context, the man of the day did exactly as Wetmore warned - kudos to Jorge.
To Scott Hubbard - I have no opinion on the ongoing Boaz eligibilty debates mostly out of basic apathy, and have no reason to distrust your points. However I will say this, I think the headache story is nothing but meaningless drivel, cry me a river. I know it's not your excuse as you are simply relating his words, but had he stated a simple "he whupped my @$$" it would have carried a bit more credibility. Despite that, as you note he and Jorge treated each other with respect after the race, which is usually the norm between the actual competitors as opposed to the legions of "virtual competitors" roaming these chat boards. Same as it ever was.
I'm with you, dude, as I'm only as good as what Boaz had to say. However, I've spent some time around him and, bear w/me, don't think he'd make something like that up. If he did make it up, then I've been duped and I'll be the first person on here to set the record straight. I shouldn't have to say this but I don't want anybody to interpret Boaz's headache as an excuse or in any way to diminish the great run by Jorge. It's possible that the Buff put the Big Hurt on the Huron/Eagle. I'll take Boaz on his word, wish he could've shown up healthy but have no qualms about the final result.
Score isn't kept for what-might've-beens.
It doesn't matter whether he had a headache or not, but I can vouch that Boaz was asking an oficial I stood next to where the medical tent was after the race. And yes, Scott knows his stuff.
On a lighter note, here is one of the most humorous descriptions of a "no-whining" attitude I've ever read (the Salazar and Rono 10k duel):
"of course, malmo would have more specifics on this, despite the fact i witnessed that race...
was a nike-generated 10k only race after an Oregon dual...i think it was UCLA...
rainy, cold day, but was perfect for a solid race. no rabbit that i recall, except Adrian Royale(RIP) led for a fair amount of the race.
i'm guessing it was around 6k that things got interesting, with salazar going to the front. royale should be credited for making the race move quickly after 2k or so, but once overtaken, tagged the other two for as long as he could...he would go on to run 27:47 or so.
it should be noted that this was set up for exactly the reason someone else suggested: this race was on April 10...salazar would run the classic battle w/beardsley 9 days later at Boston. it is my understanding that salazar and dellinger wanted to test the waters of two such efforts in that small amount of time for future reference.
so anyway, rono was not an idle bystander.. he took a lap here and there but was never a factor from the front. as he would later admit, he was hangin on one lap at at time, thinkin he could drop out at any point.
rono was, by all admissive observers, sportin a boiler...as impressive a performance under those circumstances that i've ever seen.
henry hung on long enough to smell the finish, completing maybe the best last mile of any race i've seen, two heavyweights(no pun intended) givin each other the business.
rono, of course, wins, by a very miniscule amount. salazar runs 27:30.00 and misses virgin's record by less than a second.
one of the all-time highlights for me at hayward...which i've been lucky enough to witness many....including several pre races when i was a lad...a solo 13:19 by chapa and myriad other nuggets.
this race deserves a better rendition than i was able to conger at this late an hour. hopefully someone else that was present can actually do this race justice.
timmy"

Thanks, dude, for the support both about Boaz and otherwise.
True NCAA story...I'm walking the outer loop w/old teammate Gordon Minty (3rd '73, etc.) As we were walking and talking we noticed somebody(s) had gone around and painted cute things like GO STANFORD, etc in the grass. Anyway, at the first fork at the north end, we see to the right, MEN with an arrow pointing one way and next to it, BOAZ with an arrow pointing the other way. Now, that IS funny!
OK I'm going to call BS on myself now, after thinking about it the thing is Boaz CONFIDED in Scott that he didn't feel tops, rather than ANNOUNCE it publicly (which would have amounted to my "cry me a river" scenario). He bit his lip and took his lumps on this one publicly unless I've missed the latest and greatest on the wire.
That's a funny story about the course arrows
You have responded to several posts over a period of about 8 hours but still have been able to give me specific names of the "certain people in high places" that are interested in Boaz's actual age. Your credibility continues to weaken. I'll be more than willing to back off if you can either produce a name (that I can follow up with) or admit that you were talking out of your ass again.
Which is why we don't run a 10k on an indoor track, it's stupid. And, I think Wetmore got his point across when Jorge slammed Boaz.

1. You said "I CAN THINK OF CERTAIN PEOPLE IN HIGH PLACES THAT WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT (proof of age)" The question is still out there. Who? You said you can think of people. I say Bull Shit. Give me names of these people in high places that you speak of.
2. Boaz went through the 7k with the leaders at 20:23 (I got the split myself. Torres ran 8:42 for his last 3k and Boaz ran 9:24. That means that if they were running on an indoor 200 meter track Boaz would have been lapped. I consider that shutting down for an athlete of his level.
Apparently Mr.Hubbard wasn't the only one to hear about Boaz's headache.
From the Tribune Star:
"It's OK," insisted Cheboiywo, who said he had been battling a headache since Monday morning.

Guess he just wanted to get the word out.
Open mouth, insert my apologetic foot. "Battling a headache since Monday morning..." - call the waaaaambulance. Nevertheless, he still credits Torres and Cragg for a great race which is where he should have left it to begin with.

Ah man, you gotta believe Boaz wasn't trying to play a 'sympathy card' in that interview tent after the race. I believe that largely on the strength of his comments directed at Torres and Cragg. And, he probably was wrestling w/how something as seemingly innocent as a headache could disrupt his plans...which overlapped his competitive juices. I felt his comments were more like an explanation than excuse.
all you people attacking Boaz are the biggest bunch of cowards i have even seen. you pussies can sit here and talk crap about a great runner with out any chance of a response or view of another opinion. you simply are a bunch of racist little no talent bitches who have nothing better to do than sit at home and masterbate to pictures of Jorge wishing that you could be like him but realizing that your lack of talent and drive will never allow you to be fast. so you decide to take this frustration by sexually molesting small animals in your bedroom in your parents house and on little Kenyan runners on the internet. Get some balls and talk crap to Boaz face, not on the internet.
I agree that Boaz wasn't making an excuse for losing with the headache story. I also believe that Miami officials directed him off course at the conference meet. I believe that he is probably 22 years old. I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe that the LAPD was attempting to frame OJ Simpson. I believe that Miss Cleo is the real deal. I believe that Coach Scott Hubbard did a hell of a job at Wayne State. I believe that the writer Scott Hubbard deserves a pulitzer for his excelent work. I have got to go break up a fight between Santa and the Easter Bunny. You know they were teammates of mine back in the early 70's but I hate to name drop.
Sincerely,

First of all, Boaz is not a 'great' runner anymore. He finished 7th. Therefore, he is now only 'very good'.
Second, To say we will have "no chance of a response" to our opinions is way off. What the hell do you think you were doing? You were responding, that's right.
Third, it was Jorge who was NOT hugging a girl after his victory. I, for one, got laid that night. It seems obvious that he will be the one masterbating over his victory.
Forth, at 5-3, Boaz is not intimidating to go face to face with,...but just too short to do it.

Hi dude, I'm familiar w/the story about Boaz and EMU in the Echo. What's your point?

Hi dude, thanks for the tip on the pic. Boaz looks upset about something. Wow, imagine that...a real, honest-to-goodness feeling human being who's also an exceptional runner! I'm not sure because you don't say but are you possibly holding Boaz up to some standard that you wouldn't hold yourself up to? Perhaps you'd like to share maybe one hundred of your own words interpreting the pic.
His point is that you are all pathetic.
