It's a boy! And he's five. Beck Laxton, 46, and partner Kieran Cooper, 44, have spent half the decade concealing the gender of their son, Sasha.

"I wanted to avoid all that stereotyping," Laxton said in an interview with the Cambridge News. "Stereotypes seem fundamentally stupid. Why would you want to slot people into boxes?"

This shit is so wrong in so many ways it makes my head spin. That kid is going to need major therapy someday.

As a dad of three...I agree somewhat. Check out the book Cinderella Ate My Daughter. It's a little militant, but, has some interesting points about this sort of nature versus nurture aspect, particularly what big corps (and unreflective parents) have done to the concept of girlhood in the past 10 years. Most boys and girls will, as you said, have a tendency one way or the other, but, not everyone.

With regards to what these two did, I think this is why LBGT couples should not be allowed to adopt. Of course, there will be people to say proportionally more straight couples screw up more kids. But, really, when was the last time you saw a screwed up straight family do something like this people? I don't care what argument you come up with, when you try to normalize abnormal, no matter how clever or well-intentioned you may be, you're gonna screw someone up in the process, especially if children are your mouthpiece.

Actually, lots of education researchers suggest that boys should start school a year after girls because as a group they have far more trouble sitting and concentrating in school and, as a group, struggle with the content when compared to girls during early education. As a group boys struggle in early education when compared to girls. The research is pretty consistent on this. Thus, as a group they do appear at times to be kind of stupid compared to girls. Perhaps this is not the best term to use, but this is a message bored on running.

Of course there are always people like you and your friends who are spectacular and brillant outliers far outperforming all others because of your innate intellectual abilities and perspicacious curiosity. It must really great being you.

But there is justice in everything. Eventually, Sasha will reject his upbringing and abandon his family. And we have a happy ending.

That is going to be one mess up little boy. His parents clearly have an agenda.....they are not shielding him from all gender stereotypes, only the ones that they disapprove of. The kid has dolls, but no Barbies...which they find to be bad. I really wish parents wouldn't experiment with their children. He will be in therapy soon enough, or start killing animals or something really bad.

Very interesting. I think that the pattern continues throughout academics as females are outnumbering males in college and beyond. (This might also be due to the fact that females don't want (and are not suitable) to a lot of the jobs that don't require higher education).My comments were more focused on the comments by the poster who insisted that girls were smarter than boys. I think, honestly, that the standard deviations in intelligence and ability are larger in boys than girls, which is why you'll see a lot more dumb guys than dumb girls, but also a lot more smart guys than smart girls. Overall, however, the mean will be the same. It may simply be a cultural phenomenon where men are expected to be more ambitious, competitive, and to make more sacrifices in the name of success.

I'm a transsexual, but I don't support raising your child to be completely gender neutral. I think it's important to allow your children to participate in whatever activities they please. 99 + percent of the time, kids are going to be perfectly comfortable with their gender role. If your kid is in fact trans (which many believe to be a brain wiring issue) it will soon become obvious and at that point, let the kid decide how he or she identifies, what clothes he/she wears, etc. There's no need to hide your child's birth sex to make a political statement.
