Genghis Khan actually cooled the atmosphere despite all of the atrocities he committed. He may have been the world's greenest murderer:

This post is kind of scary through the display of the scientific ignorance of the majority of the posters. The morons that claim this recent cold spell contradicts the theory of GW are just ignorant fools that don't understand the scientific theory. This weather provides further validation of the GW theory. The impact man has in the acceleration of the trend toward GW is up for debate but GW itself is a definite fact.

I am always amazed when people bite on these threads.
In terms of energetics:
Globally Warmer Temperatures -> More Moisture in Atmosphere -> More Energy in Atmosphere -> More *Extreme* Weather
The planet has been in a warming trend for about 14,000-18,000 years. Within this general trend there have been periods of mini trends of cooling and warming often lasting centuries each (Medieval warming trend, Little Ice Age, etc.).
Business interests and politicians are trying to use this as a basis to steal our money and restrict our mobility.
Yeah, I'm an idiot for taking the bait on this and wasting my time.
My wife just caught me wasting my time on this thread and she's a big believer in man made global warming. And a non runner. This day just took a turn for the worst.
It's amazing how many different people have opinions on the SCIENCE of global warming, just because they've read a couple articles online or watched PBS every so often.
97% of climatologists (in other words, climate SCIENTISTS, who have received degrees in climate science studies) support the idea that man-made climate change is real. Click this (http://content.usatoday.com/communities/sciencefair/post/2010/06/scientists-overwhelmingly-believe-in-man-made-climate-change/1) if you don't believe me.
These are the people who are fully academically qualified to make assertions regarding climate change.
Someone who Google's "climate change debate" and reads a summary of the issues is not qualified. Neither are POLITICIANS. This is SCIENCE, not politics.
Supposed you had to have brain surgery. You would never go up to the brain surgeon and say, "Hey, look, I found this brain surgey technique online, you should do this instead, your way is wrong" or "Hey, my congressman told me that such and such is the best way of going about this procedure, your way doesn't make sense."
You would NEVER do that because you know that the brain surgeon is an expert regarding the science and inner workings of the brain. You would never question him based on hearsay and internet research.
It's the same thing with any other science. You would never challenge the findings of an astronomer based on a reading of the Wikipedia entry of astronomy, you would never challenge the findings of quantum mechanics research based on the feelings of a politician.
Climate science is the same thing. 97% of climate SCIENTISTS (in a survey of over 1300 scientists) support the idea of man-made climate change. They are the experts. Not biologists, not physicists, not meteorologists, not internet bloggers, and definitely not POLITICIANS. These groups are not qualified to make SCIENTIFIC counterclaims against the findings of climate SCIENTISTS.
And before you jump on me, I didn't just type all that out. A simple copy and paste, though it is my own writing :)
So, are you responding to my simple argument? Or to the thread in general? My point is not in contradiction with your statement. I'm just pointing out that from an energetics point of view, we can expect an increase in the extremes of crappy weather (both cold and hot, wet and dry) with global warming.
My point is that we were frozen then got warm. Massive change in the environment before man became industrialized. So the concept of MAN-MADE global warming is ridiculous. Our impact is minimal or nonexistent. From the ice age it has been at least 130 feet, Al Gore is talking about 10 feet (and I guess now that is an exaggeration). My point is the climate has always changed and man has nothing to do with it.

You probably should publish a paper or something because I'm sure all those global warming theorizing climatologists are completely unaware of the cyclical ice age phenomena.

No one will argue with the fact that climate change has occurred all throughout the planet's history. The RATE of current climate change coinciding with industrialization are, among other things, main reasons why scientists attribute this current change to humans.

+ 1
Actually the rate of sealevel rise has slowed down significantly, it has not gotten worse with humans. if anything the government should pay us to use more carbon.

I don't get paid to say the sky is falling, climatologists do.
