There is a very simple reason the top US runners don't want to compete in USATF XC Championship: They know the next step, Worlds, is going to be an Africn sweep! When the top 15 finishers are from Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, etc., year-in and year-out, it becomes disincentivizing. Why bother going to Worlds when you know you don't stand a chance? I have to tell you, if something isn't done in the US racing circles to restrict entry to real Americans, you are going to see the same ambivalence in the US race scene, i.e., as more and more African runners dominate distance racing, the level of interest in distance racing will continue to decline in the US, purses, already tiny, will become even tinier, and distance racing will become an historical footnote in the US athletic scene. Just a thought.
