Addictions can be psychological as well as physical. A psychological addiction is usually in response to some emotional damage the person has experienced. When a person tries to stop the addictive behavior without addressing the emotional issue underlying it, he/she will indeed experience withdrawal.
The vast majority of sex addicts are dealing with some kind of emotional trauma, though they may not be aware of it.
Yeah, and that's what I'd call a compulsion. Too me compulsion=brain, addiction= physical pain, DTs i.e heroin
Calling sex, running, internet, eating, an "addiction" is just getting too loosey goosey with the word, making "addiction" too broad.
"Because I have body image issues I have an overwhelming compulsion to run and work out." That puts the onus on the person, "Because I have body image issues I am addicted to running." suddently the person is no longer responsible for their actiosn. OMG I'm addicted, it's not me.. it's not my fault I'm addicted!
