This is not true at all. The diehards rarely spout off, positive or negative. Those around me at the stadium are not happy, but accept that we fans have to put up with this situation.
Since players in the modern NFL move around so much, fans basically root for an organization. This is part of what has kept me a Steeler's fan. The organization/ownership keeps defense the priority since it fits with the fan base, tries to keep the most popular players, and dumps the poor citizens. Of course this last point has come into question of late and this fan was all for Ben to be dumped, trade up and get a QB. I am not sure how hard they tried, but they could not anything for him last summer, particularly with the 4-6 game suspension looming. Even though I don't like keeping Ben, the Rooney's are head and shoulders above most ownerships as far as running an organization that makes fans proud.

I don't think that's really any different from other fans either. Steelers fans love their team and are, for the most part, just sort of uncomfortable with Rothlisberger.
I'm a Steelers die-hard who was given a Rothlisberger shirt a few years ago. A really nice shirt, a present from good friend. Then his behavior came to light. I didn't burn the shirt because it was a gift but I don't exactly wear it anymore either.
I kind of wish I had a Polamalu shirt now.

Gotta go with the Steelers, although I have to confess I've been surprised at how well the Jets have been playing in the playoffs. Beating Manning, Brady, and Ben in a row would be pretty remarkable...but I think the Jets' run is over.
Ironic -- TV is probably praying it will end up Jets-Bears (#1 market & #3 TV markets) but will probably end up Steelers-Green Bay -- two of the smaller NFL markets (but big fan bases).
Steelers 27-13. Game closer than the score due to Jets come from behind attempt failing and Steelers get some easy points.
My kids and wife threw their #7 Jersey away before the season began.
Both teams respect each other and it should be a good game. My money is on the STEELERS. The new chant around pittsburgh is we are "KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCKIN ON 7's DOOR!

to counter that point; Howie Long, a defensive hall of famer, Tom Jackson, and defensive 16 year player for Denver, both said Hines Ward is NOT dirty. He is just the opposite of what defensive players are used to seeing in wide receivers. He hits!!! He hits hard.
