Exactly. I think the boss is the dark horse here. He wouldn't jump in the middle of 2 other guys' bet unless he knew he could beat them. Plus he gets a 41-meter head start, his PR and current best 400 are kept a mystery, plus he ran the 400 in high school. Sure, that was a long time ago, but he will remember how to race a 400 without blowing up at the end.

No offense to "The Friend," but he doesn't have running/track experience, and swimming fitness does not convert well to running fitness.

My prediction:

1) The Boss

2) The Young Guy

3) The Friend

Two strategies you might consider:

1. If you believe you can sprint faster than the other guy, cruise the first 200 and let him catch up - the extra effort he puts in trying to catch you will tire him out before you kick it in.

2. Since you already have a lead, start out going as hard as you can, build the lead so that it seems insurmountable and he gives up.

Also, another factor that might come into play: Will the boss be unhappy if you destroy him (as in the Michael Scott character)? Or will he respect you less if he dominates you? If either of these are possibilities, you might want to false start/fake an injury. Or convince the 28 year old that either he should do this.

Finally, proper equipment is necessary. Borrow a team speedsuit and track spikes from Rojo - or break out your old competition swimwear, aka the Speedo. The intimidation factor/causing your opponent to laugh might be worth a second or two.

But maybe what would be even better, since the boss is starting ahead of you guys, it he's a good sport about things, would be to fire the gun and let him run for awhile before he realizes that you guys didn't even start and he's just running around the track by himself.

A couple things.

1. Why the huge leads? For the bragging rights to be true, everyone should start equally.

2. Is this on an indoor 200m track, or an outdoor 400m?

3. Friend, I would advise that you should probably forget about workouts that are just doing weights. You'll probably want to start running most days from now until then. If you want to do a weight workout in addition to going for a run, that's good, but you'll want to get your body used to running most days from now until the big day. I agree with the poster who suggested piling on the interval sessions 3 or 4 times a week.

4. This is so cool and I wish my work would have these kinds of little competitions.

5. The morning of the competition day, try going for a quick (think 10-20 min) little jog with maybe a few sprints at the end followed by some gentle stretching. This will help you feel energized and loose later on in the day when you race, and allow you to clear your head and get psyched.

I'm impressed people remembered the bet.

Unfortunately I was driving to Houston and had to miss the race.

Mrs Wejo reports that Michael Scott was the winner.

More details to come tomorrow. I think she said Michael Scott ran a 56 (including the head start) but she told met his at 6 am this morning as I was driving her to the airport so my memory isn't the best. She said there would be more of an update tomorrow.

So who came in second? I am guess it was the track guy.
