I once had a boss tell me that if I grew my hair out and then cut it like a mullet and kept it for a month that I could have every Friday off early (half day) for an entire year.
I should have taken him up on it.

I'm a hair stylist (and female) so let me respond from my point of view. First, you say that you don't look good with a shaved head. I guarantee you'll look worse with a combover. Don't shave it all the way, but clip it short like the other guys recommend. Go to a stylist and have her determine the correct setting for the clippers. Now this means without hair there will be more of a focus on your face. Take meticulous care of your skin. If you have a weak chin or facial scarring consider a beard and mustache to help in those areas. But keep your facial hair well-groomed. Since your scalp is now more exposed you'll need to gradually tan it to match the rest of your body. Don't forget sunscreen or a hat when you're outside. Have confidence in yourself and you'll pull it off!

+1
This woman sums it up.
I have really thick, wavy brown hair. I am 31. Lately, I have noticed more and more seems to be falling out in the shower. I cannot really see any thinning, but I think it is coming. I went to have my hair cut last week and the hair stylist told me I had nice thick hair, so maybe I am just paranoid.
Anyway, I have gotten a lot of tail due to my hair. I liken thick hair to big boobs on a girl. Nice if you have it, but it really isn't going to be a determining factor.
Girls like thick hair though.
To the OP:
If I start going bald, I will shave it close. Probably #2 or so. If you do it and keep it, people will get used to it quickly. I bet you just think you don't look good b/c you are not used to it. Think about when you grow a beard and then shave it off. You kind of freak yourself out, but then it looks normal again the next day.
i laugh when i read posts like the first one in this thread. it is such a non-issue in life. if you have a job and a personality and you're not a slob you'll get women, so lighten up. only a weenie would be researching hair plugs. they just scream INSECURITY.
i never think about being bald at all. my hair's been gone for 15 yrs.
it started falling out fast at 30 and by 33 i had was shaving my head. now i take the mach 5 to my bean every 4 days or so and it's totally liberating.
I've got my hair but this thread made me curious.
Did Webb get a transplant? What exactly is a transplant.
Webb had no hair and then all of a sudden he had a ton of it.
I believe Webb got what is sometimes referred to as a weave, like a bunch of hair sort of attached to the rest of his hair.
To answer your question, hair transplantation involves taking hair, usually from the back of one's head, and inserting it, one hair at a time, into the dead hair follicles elsewhere. I have to agree that such a painstaking process screams insecurity like nothing else. Can you imagine being called out in public for having such a procedure?

How the hell does it stay on?
Also picture of Jeremy Piven's post surgery head...
http://3391.voxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Jeremy-Piven-Hair-Transplant.jpgI take a razor to my head once a week as well. When I started losing my hair at 27, I went with the #2 guard. Then a couple years later I went with no guard. Then the razor. Each step resulted in an improvement in my appearance.
I second the stylist above's comment that it's important to keep your skin healthy and facial hair well manicured.
I will say that there is a tremendous difference in retained heat though, just between having a slight bit of head stubble and having a chrome dome. It's really noticeable. Get a good beanie.
A lot of people lose it and completely shave it bald but for a lot of men that can look too severe and actually can be just look like you are trying to hide it
Go for 2 or 3 on back sides and 3/4 on top. Natural not square cut at back and graduated in
When I was young I had a haircut like the lead singer of a band. Every day someone would come up and ask where I got it cut or something. I'd never seen my dad with a hair on his head so thought best to make the most of it!
Sure enough mine started to go only not completely. Once you get over 40 its only gonna go grey anyway. Not many guys have the same hair at 30 as at 20 even if they don't lose that much, Think of going for a transplant think Elton John - even all his money but still looking like a muppet.
Never made much difference with girls.. sure some won't go for it but they are never all gonna go for you. Just like running you have to make up for it other areas. The key thing is confidence. I'm not that confident but I can act it! Plus as you get older you gain comfidecne from just not caring less what people think
Contrary to what you would think people always think I'm younger too - thats probably down to the running though!

Totally liberating is right. I used to be so uptight about humidity making my thinning hair limp, going swimming so my bald spot would show through my wet hair, etc. Finally I decided that worrying over it was ridiculous and was taking far too much time and effort so I shaved it. After getting over the shock of no hair, I loved it. No worries (except for making sure to use sunscreen or a hat). It always looks good. The stylist who posted is right by saying there is more focus on your face so research good skin care and if you have facial hair keep it neat. And if you have a unibrow...get rid of that shit too!
peeps with veneers and dentures and braces, piss me off too.

No being cancer free was important to me. I only miss hair now that it's cold. Eyebrows, however, I do miss those. I think I look like that guy that shot up the Arizona congresswoman last week without 'em.
Is it possible to shave your own head with clipper and a guard but leave it a little longer on the top?
I have a receding hairline and usually get it cut with a #2 on the back and sides and have it a little bit longer on the top and front (not combover longer). My hair grows fast and I'd be nice to be able to save some money and do a DIY trim to keep it short but have no idea how to keep it longer on the top.
Any suggestions?
Okay, some more info about me, then, Stylist.
I have very good skin, no weak chin; I have large features (large nose, large eyes, eyebrows, ears, mouth.)
I used to buzz my hair a lot when I was younger and in my early 20s; it is totally liberating and it feels nice to not have to worry about hair. I earn a six-figure salary, have a large social circle, am fit, relatively good looking, and my sex life, while lower than I would like at times, is more due to my job than to my 'game.'
With all of that being said, I know that I look better with hair. My features look better, I turn a lot more heads, and I even get more compliments when I have my hair 'grown out' versus when I buzz it down.
A lot of you guys just shaved it off and went with it and I think that's awesome. But for me, I don't look good that way and unless I really have to, I don't want to wear it that way.
I lead a good life and I have the money for a hair transplant/FUT. It's not a low self esteem issue. I'm just wondering if it's because I'm about to turn 30 that I care about my receding hairline or... if I shave, will I always wish I had gotten a hair transplant?
My hair was very important to me, good thing I'm a well-paid athlete and can pay $15K to get back in the game!

I will tell you this - hair on a man's head means nothing.
That's what bald guys say
Truth? I'm 51 and young girls (25+) LOVE me because of my full head of hair. Sorry. Man my wife hates it, I got all these young women who love me- they love my hair, I'm in shape of course, but the hair helps.
Sorry dude, you're aging before your time.
Right on. Funny post, but totally true. If someone treats you different, screw'em! I too would take a full head of hair if given the choice. Excellent post from reality guy. Shave on!

I get the same thing in reverse...girls love my bald head. They rub it, kiss it, and do other things with it. My wife gets a kick out of it.
