Gabrielle Giffords interview from 2 days ago.
... actually, it appears to be from March of last year.
I attacking you think as well. You are obviously the shooter's mother. There is no other explanation for you.
This is an excerpt from a diary of a fellow student, who seems to have had his number right away.
And if it was obvious to her….
From June 1, the first day of class:
"One day down and nineteen to go. We do have one student in the class who was disruptive today, I'm not certain yet if he was on drugs (as one person surmised) or disturbed. He scares me a bit. The teacher tried to throw him out and he refused to go, so I talked to the teacher afterward. Hopefully he will be out of class very soon, and not come back with an automatic weapon."
From June 10:
"As for me, Thursday means the end to week two of algebra class. It seems to be going by quickly, but then I do have three weeks to go so we'll see how I feel by then. Class isn't dull as we have a seriously disturbed student in the class, and they are trying to figure out how to get rid of him before he does something bad, but on the other hand, until he does something bad, you can't do anything about him. Needless to say, I sit by
the door."
From June 14:
"We have a mentally unstable person in the class that scares the living crap out of me. He is one of those whose picture you see on the news, after he has come into class with an automatic weapon. Everyone interviewed would say, Yeah, he was in my math class and he was really weird. I sit by the door with my purse handy. If you see it on the news one night, know that I got out fast..."
Anybody know what test Arizona uses for insanity (e.g. M'Naghten, etc.)?
Sarah Palin, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck will pool (and raise) funds for Loughner's defense.
what is there to lawyer up to or take to trial? just like the idiot muslim extremist in fort hodd, multiple people saw the shooter perform the crime, and multiple people died. enough said.
Mental competency, sentencing, mitigating circumstances, conspiracy/accomplices, possible civil claims, lots more to the legal system than establishing someone physically performed an act...
Lots of respect to the lawyer for taking these cases and ensuring they are handled respectfully and properly
FYI the lawyer is a public defender. This is her job. She is just doing it.
the lost art of thinking, I agree with the previous poster that "you are correct as a matter of principle to guard against a rush to judgment".
And yes, much of the media is corporate-owned and a mouthpiece for government (see, Iraq war 2003).
But if you think that every crime is a set up, like what happened to Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in the Running Man, then you are indeed paranoid.
I work for a local government. In my experience, the local media is not a mouthpiece for the government but rather hysterically skeptical. They embellish every story as much as they possibly can. For example, our police department bought a Honeywell T-Hawk drone to take real-time aerial photos of hostage situations involving gunmen, in order to assist the swat teams on the ground. The drone looks like a flying garbage can. Since it doesn't look ominous enough, the local news station chose to to broadcase videos of the predator drone.
lala - she is not a local defender, which makes a lot of sense from a community and conflicts standpoint. Competent counsel makes the system work. Glad an experienced lawyer is on the case.
