First run of 2011 - Actually not to hung over. Slapped on some sunscreen and took off - not too hot - low 80's but the sun is strong at 5,000 feet. Still trying to get back in shape - did 41 minutes (no idea how far) - fun watching all the drunk parties still going from the night before at 10:30 in the morning. Definitely got some stares, as running on New Year's Day (or most other days for that matter!) isn't exactly popular down here.
last run of 2010: 13 mile long run, 88 minutes.
first run of 2011: 9 miles easy, 61 minutes.
last of 2010: 10 miles 1:01:40
first of 2010: 10 miles 1:06:03
Looks like I'm a lot slower this year. :(
This is sprinting and jumping as opposed to running.
I was out at the track yesterday with one of the top high school long jumpers in America (and a much better athlete than any of the so-called "real runners" that post here). He is just getting started with general prep for his senior track season, and I'm just tapering/peaking for indoors (60m).
His workout was 3X600 + 3X100, all standing, in training shoes, and not much over 70% speed for him. This is typical "base" training for a sprinter, and LJ correlates >90% with 100 meter sprint performance.
Mine was 30 + 3X60, all @100% from blocks (last true speed session before race season).
My first one of the new year will by 10X30m from blocks with a walk of the remainder of the lap for recovery. This is an old Brooks Johnson workout for sprinters, but Brooks didn't have people doing as many as 10.
Last day of 2011 was an easy 6 miler.
Today, at 4pm I did 11 miles to bring in 2011. Pretty smooth, feeling good!

2010-two runs, 5.5 in am@1500ft and 6.5 in pm@6500ft(yep sucked in wind on the dreadmill)
2011-7.0@6500ft and hilly, with snow and temps 22. Sucked in wind even MORE today but the run was very enjoyable. I think I will wait until tomorrow to do my LR when I am back down from altitude. I have total respect for follks who run in this stuff for the winter!

2011- 12mi at about 6:30 and 4 of it with my dog
