I don't know that seems like a tough record to beat. And there have been plenty of Africans going for that goal but have not been able to deliver.
I'll expect the 800 to fall below 1:41 before the years out, other than that distance wise maybe the 5k, maybe the 1500 who knows they are impressive marks, with the high school and college talent out there right now I can see some being contested a few years down the road. Of course there is alot of talent out there right now.
800m (Rudisha has more in the tank), 110mHH (Oliver almost got it this year), marathon (a little soft with lots of guys within 2 minutes of it and Geb with another good shot), 400mi (soft), 100m (healthy Bolt, pushed by Gay), 200m (same).
I'm going with whatever Ventolin^3 tells me. He has a magical calculator and he has watched a lot of track races on TV. Some of them even on Satellite TV.
Mr. Obvious, could you please stop muddling up every thread you post on with an insult towards ventolin? No one takes him seriously when he starts posting "moron" or "drivel" every two words. I normally like your posts, and think you have a lot good to say. Don't ruin that or other good threads by making every post about ventolin.
Re: the world records, it seems no one realizes just how good the 5000m record is. Who has indicated that they have the fitness to get near it? So far, it doesn't look like anyone is scratching the surface of 12:45. It's important to remember only 10 (or 11, not sure) men in history have broken 12:50.
The 1500m record is also phenomenal. I encourage those of you who think it will fall to look at the all time lists for 1500m and one mile. El Guerrouj was out of this world -consistently-. I've never seen anyone produce the volumes of quality times and performances that he has EVER over ANY distance. It's unbelievable. That being said, I think there's a lot of talent in the 1500m right now, and they might get close to the record (certainly closer than anyone is to the 5000m, at the moment), but I still don't think that anyone is currently near 3:26.
Regarding Geb's marathon, I agree that it is a very good record. I don't agree that it is out of reach of Wanjiru. When he is in peak shape, he is unbelievable. I could even see Kebede taking a stab at it. All either needs are a couple months of good, consistent training (we know how injury prone Wanjiru is), and a fast course and I think the record will go.
I would have to go with:
Men:
110h (Oliver)
800 (Rudisha)
Half-Marathon (Wanjiru or Tadesse)
Marathon (Wanjiru)
Better Question: When will the 3k record be broken?

LRC fantasy - Alan Webb, 2011 - 7:17 in good ole Rieti.
Dis man has got it right - dese fools ain't never gonna touch my record. 58.7 seconds per lap ain't joggin' mofos, take it from me.
