Do the police really "protect and serve"?

I can't imagine why anybody would want to be a police officer unless they were after the feeling of empowerment or were forced into it because they were too stupid or lacking in social skills to get a good job in another field. The people that the police force attracts are usually bottom of the barrel, as it's maybe the most thankless profession in society.

1) I disagree that we see incidents like this every week.2) As litigious as people are these days, I don't think there's a LOT of this kind of thing that goes unpunished; some, but not as much as you are implying.3) So, there ARE bad cops...on that you and I agree. I say WAY fewer than you say. The question is, what do you do about it? Do you decide that they are all bad because a small percentage are? I say no.

That may be so but such incidents as this are all too routine. Something is systemically wrong when incidents like this show up on a weekly basis. Guess what: cops, and many of people in positions of power, sometimes abuse that power. It's human nature. That doesn't make it ok, but it does make it not especially newsworthy.

Can you please point out where I mentioned race in my origanal post. Almost ALL cops are dirty, whether they are black or white. And I do mean almost ALL!!! Most cops dont beat people up and steal drugs and money, but I would venture to say that most cops know other cops that do. If a cop beats someone up and its not caught on camera or there is no visable facial damage, the average person can forget about the other cops who were present to tell the truth. Cops will lie for each other in most cases. When I make the statement "almost all cops are dirty", I can say that because the cop that lies for the dirty cop is just as crooked as the dirty cop.

I grew up in the "hood" and I cant begin to tell you all the things I have seen dirty ass cops do. As a teenager I was in the car when the police stole my cousin's money and weed. I will admit that my cousin sold weed, but that doesnt give the police the right to rob him. If he broke the law, then send him to jail. Police feel that stealing from a drug dealer isnt really stealing. I heard the cops tell him he has the choice to give up the money and weed OR go to jail. The dirty bastards act like they are against drugs, but they will turn around and sell the drugs they steal. FVCK THE POLICE!!!!

The posting style and frequency, and use of "all too" point to multiple handles. I mean jesus, a little hyperbole here? Shouldn't "always" be in the subject line? It's just odd that I've seen 10 cops in the last 2 days and not once have I been beaten, shot, raped or stolen from. In fact I never have been even though I'm fairly poor. Those gang foot soldier murdering pirates need to step up their game.

You may be "fairly poor", but you are also "fairly stupid". The "10 cops in last 2 days" comment is too ignorant for me to respond.

If it is not on video then there is absolutely no chance that a citizen has any recourse. All the cop has to say is either "he made a threatening move towards me" or "He was resisting" and he can get away with murder.

We'll just have to disagree. Besides, you are still being unclear and incomplete. To say the system is broken is one thing...I even agree with that, because there can ALWAYS be improvements, but what is the proper way to view cops then? And what do you do about a broken system? Bullshit! If a cop beat the hell out of someone and there was no video and no witnesses, do you think the VAST majority of cops would tell the truth or go along with the dirty cops story? Be honest.

A little while back, a pair of cops hit the flashers and gunned the engine so that they could beat a light. Turned them off once they got by. They did this in front of my whole xc team. Almost ran one of us over. That's about when I stopped kidding myself.

While living in Wash,DC I knew a small time(2 ho's)pimp. At that time in downtown, 14th St had the higher class ho's and 13th St had the lower class(cheaper)ho's. He told me if he wanted his ho's to work 14th St, he had to pay the vice cops. The pigs also used to pick up the ho's and threaten to take them to jail if they didnt DO them. ALL the other cops knew what was going on.

How in gods name the police union doesn't come out and say the cop is at fault in beyond me. THAT is the problem. The cop is a nut case. Standing behind him is what gives all cops a bad name.
