I like Oregon, don't get me wrong, but f*** modern art.

Just because I wear tight pants,, ride a fixie, and listen to music you haven't heard of doesn't make me gay...you don't get it man. Come to vooodoodoughnuts and I'll explain it with some contemporary poetry...
In all seriousness, there are still times I'll take the short trip downtown for lunch - just so I can people watch.
Heard this one the other day, surely I'm late and the joke is old, but none the less....how many hipsters does it take to change a light bulb?
1. “Some obscure number, you’ve probably never heard of it. “
2. “Hard to say, but it probably sounds better on vinyl.”
3. 11. One to screw in the light bulb, 10 to talk about how much they like the old light bulb better.
4. "One. My iPhone has a lightbulb app."
5. “I have a few questions first. Is the light bulb locally bought? Will the ladder scuff my white shoes? Does the light bulb come in a V-neck?”
The Pac NW is nice for 4 months out of the year from May to August but I find the rain depressing and the people morose and suicidal the rest of the year. I like Santa Monica, Malibu, Ventura, and Santa Barbara far better for training all year around.
September is probably the best month of the year. It rarely rains until around mid-October, which is another great month in Portland. I can't believe you would prefer training in Southern California...you must be joking.
I went to Portland on a quick business trip last year and it is a creepy place. The people there seem to celebrate crystal meth and homelessness. (Admittedly, I did not spend a lot of time there.)
Portland in September has fog and overcast. Los Angeles is where the WC/Oly medalists train and live because of the weather.
dago is great. chula vista, north county, poway, there's so much variety. the rain has been bad this week and that's unusual. the volume of runners training here in dago and socal far outstrip any other part of the usa.
I teach at a high school and the art teacher told me we "just don't understand good art."Right! Some of my runners put a rock with some blades of grass and called it art and she thought it was great. She had no clue they were mocking her.

This is true. I went to an art show in Portland and it was the most egregious display of non-talent you could imagine. they actually had an exhibit called "Styrofoamia" which was rooms filled knee deep with Styrofoam objects. O-kaaaaaaaayyyyy.....
This laughability of art is everywhere....when I was in college a fellow art studio classmate stapled a dead mouse to the wall for critique. If there's a fool out there to buy it, it's art. That's why I did music instead....there's at least an objectivity of right notes/wrong notes...
BTW, my vote for best octopus sculpture is in Port Angeles, WA.
And I thought the Portland song was catchy....

You watch local news, I don't think you live in Portland.
Sorry, don't understand your comment at all. I guess to be honest, I don't live in Portland. I live just across the Columbia River in Vancouver, WA. We get the local Portland news there too. :)
Malmo, I'm just reporting what I heard on KPTV (Ch. 12) news that I was watching at the exact time I was reading this thread.

Seriously dude, you need to get some therapy about your Oregon bitterness...and you Oregon haters too.
There is good and bad anywhere.
Life, and where you live, is what you make.
I can't get over this guys post. He's been coming to Letsrun for almost a year and all of his posts express hostility at anyone who doesn't suck Phil Knights cock. Now he attacks Malmo for posting a promotional music video for Portlandia, an upcoming Portland-based television show about life in Portland.
Get Real Real is the poster boy for the Paranoid Oregonian. Walk around Eugene or Portland, you will find him everywhere.
Merry Christmas, Get Real Real. I hope that Santa brings you some reality.
It's a cheap flight to Seattle and Portland from Orange County. I've trained up there. It's a nice place but cold and wet most of the year. May to September is o.k. but storms come in every few days.

SEATTLE HAS STORMS THAT PASS THROUGH FAIRLY OFTEN DURING THE SUMMER, BUT PORTLAND IS BASICALLY A DRAUGHT FROM JULY THROUGH SEPTEMBER. CHECK YOUR FACTS ABOUT TEMPERATURES AND AVERAGE RAINFALL FROM JULY TO OCTOBER 1ST. THE REALITY IS THAT PORTLAND PROBABLY HAS ONE OF THE MOST IDEAL CLIMATES IN THE WORLD DURING THOSE MONTHS, COUPLED WITH WHAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD CALL MODERATE THE REST OF THE YEAR. HELL EVEN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HAS LOTS OF RAIN FROM DECEMBER TO APRIL AND ALONG WITH THAT IS THE MISERABLE HEAT IN JUNE THROUGH AUGUST, ALONG WITH THE SMOG AND SANTA ANA WINDS. LETS BE HONEST AND COME OUT WITH THE TRUTH HERE.
I think this news story from about 3 years ago sums up Oregon

Comments (0)ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) - An art project that was mistaken for vandalism was the target of vandals who destroyed the exhibit last week...Police cited an SOU sophomore, Genevieve Hummel, 19, for tearing the installation down, and the university art department is pressing charges.
"I didn't know it was an art project," Hummel said. "It wasn't labeled. No one knew it was an art project."...."I was just picking up what people had made messy," Hummel said. "Everyone else split."
It's ideal weather all year long here in So Cal. Getaways to to Santa Barbara, Big Bear, Ridgecrest, Tecopa, Mammoth are just a 1/2 day drive. I've been to other places but So Cal is inspirational because it's where the Olympians and Worlds medalists train and reside.
In Sep we have quickie storms every 3 to 4 days in Eugene. It's a little overcast and foggy usually. Nothing that bad though.
We put birds on things
When people are drugged out, they believe that it's ideal weather all year long. Oh to live in that dream world. Reality is lacking, but the mind is content.
The police in Portland ignore Crystal Meth and Heroin addicts because the dealers and addicts are Anglos. The detrimental impact of society is catastrophic. Eugene, Salem, and Portland are overloaded with homeless meth and heroin addicts, prostitution, rape, White slavery, sexual abuse, pedophelia, etc. as a result.

I had planned on moving to Portland in April of this year before my girlfriend at the time dumped me. I was also planning on taking a year off of work when I moved there. I'm 28.
I'm searching my house for cameras or wire taps right now to make sure IFC doesn't owe me royalties, but if this show continues to be as insightful into my life, that would be great. I like my fiction to be personalized.
