A runner by the name of Racer X needs to get in some serious mile training so that they can set the record for people with a last name beginning with X. No one yet?

Fastest 15th place in a mile race

Only 24 Americans have run equal or faster than this 15th place finish by Baba.
How many Morrocans have run faster than 3:53.64?
Very few americans realize how much the mile distance is a non factor in most of the world. Ask a kid in Algeria how far a mile is and he probably would not have a clue.Outside of the very elite it is hardly run outside of the states. A person could be a 3.37 1500 runner and be competing for years and never have run a mile race.
What are you like 12 years old? "Ask any kid in Algeria..." geeze.. Anyone who has run a 3:37 1500 has run a mile before.
I know that was a rhetorical question but anyway:
I count 12 Moroccans sub 3:53.64 in the mile and something like 28 or 29 Moroccans sub 3:36 (equiv performance) in the 1500. I may have doublecounted some of the latter.
Funding in most countries is based on 1500m times. Not unless you have a clock at 1500, a mile might as well be a 800 or a 3k.The iaaf also does not accept equivalent times.A person only has so many chances a year to get a time.
I saw a mile once where the meet had official times at 1500.Many of the runners were walk/jogging the last 109m.
