One Indoor National HS Meet in 2011

Except that nobody around the country knew of such an event. Were sanctions secured from the NFHS and specific states to accommodate potential out-of-state or national level athletes? Just because it is open to all high school athletes doesn't mean it achieves national stature or should be called pre-nationals. Sounds like a promotional idea to build the participation of an event that had been in-place prior. Support that idea, but I think referring to it either today or in prior years as pre-nats might be a stretch competition wise, but can be called whatever they wish when the event was in Boston. Now with no event in Boston there does not seem to be logic in referring to it as pre-nats. Just my opinion.

This the the third year of the meet and it has been publicized around the country. The meet has been sanctioned by the NFHS and sanctions have been requested from every state in the U.S.. This meet was created when the nationals returned to Boston. The intention was to give potential competitors at March's meet a chance to get in an effort at the site of that meet. Very commendable, if you ask me.

As for no longer calling it a "pre-nat" meet, that makes sense. However with the late withdrawal of the national meet from the Reggie, it is understandable why the meet literature still refers to the meet as a "pre-nat".

Understandable with late event changes. Intention was well founded and certainly commendable and an excellent manner in which to grow a new event. Spoke with several out-of-state (non-New England) coaches who have attended nationals in Boston last 2 years and no one ever heard of the event. Anyway that is water under the bridge. Reggie Lewis Center was a great place for a meet with support from an outstanding local effort lead by Keith M. and his team.

Reggie Lewis has also hosted a National HS Indoor Scholastic for the first two years of its existence (1996-1997) prior to the Armory's renovation and "re-opening." This meet was well attended by athletes all around the country; it was the first time I witnessed the infamous Obea Moore win three relays.

Those were awesome meets and I believe one year there were 7 national records set along with great team coaching efforts by Clyde Turner of Pasadena Muir boys and Terry Kennedy of Long Beach Wilson girls with Kinshasha Davis anchoring the LBW girls. Those meets were managed by the NSSF with one of their guiding lights Tracy Sundlin providing senior level guidance while he was running the MAC before joining Elite Racing in Calif. I happen to be close friends with the person who was responsible for bringing together those great boys and girls fields in Boston and several other national level meets for many years along with being one of the initial minds behind NTN/NXN.

Obea anchored 3 winning relays that weekend. The 4x2 in 21.1, 4x4 in 46.+ and if I believe correctly the SMR in either 1:52.5 or possibly 1:50.5. Memories for the ages. RLC was the place back then.

Not to get too far off topic, or perhaps to even get back on topic. While in attendance at the Reggie Lewis version of nationals last year, they announced that it was the last year of the meet. Why does it take until now to announce it? and why is it a shock to anybody?

A pre-nationals meet needs to have competitors from around the nation/country who intend on participating in a national event and the Holiday Classic (pre-nats) did not. If there are no athletes from outside of the New England area, wouldn't it be a stretch to designate an event pre-nats except to promote a local event. If the idea was to designate the meet as an event before the nationals that would be fine, but to think it was a true pre-nats or should be identified as such with mostly local athletes and no or very limited presence of teams and/or individuals from across the country like in CC I think it doesn't fly.

First, there were athletes from outside of New England. Admittedly not many, but there were some.

Secondly, are you suggesting that the "pre-nats" designation should be withheld pending receipt of all entries? Isn't an open invitation to all potential national meet entrants enough?

If the meet does not have a reasonable and/or predictable possibility of attracting student athletes from around the country and not just within a 100 mile radius, it should not be named a pre-nats event. Just my opinion.

Example of a mis-labeled event is the pseudo national championship meet on the oversize 300m Ohio track. Records and performances for all-time lists cannot be achieved on oversize surfaces. That is why the NSSF always stayed with a 200m surface as did the now defunct and non-existent NSIC/MAC event. I have recently heard some people refer to the new NSSF/NBIN as an event that combined with the old NSIC/MAC event. Again that is not the case and the NSIC/MAC event was never part of any discussions, will not play any role in the new event and is no longer being staged and never will be ever again at the Armory. One meet belonging to the NSSF, title sponsor New Balance and site at the Armory. NSSF will be fully in charge of the management of the event as is their model for NBN outdoors as well.

So it appears that the NSIC meet is no more and the NSSF event was not combined with the NSIC meet. Makes sense as the NSSF group would not need any assistance from the MAC and with sponsorship from New Balance and the Armory as their site why would they. MAC brings nothing to the table that the NSSF does not already have so why partner. Glad that with one event that the NSSF is in charge. They are known for their great organization, outstanding event management and treating the athletes, coaches and fans well.

MAC was a train wreck waiting to occur from what coaches who have attended said. Their treatment of athletes and coaches was not viewed very positively and several of their staff down right rude and disrespectful.

My team won two relay national titles last year at NSIC and never received our rings I guess this is never going to happen now.

Unfortunately winners over the last 3 years have not received their winners rings. Just one of many financial items that were not delivered upon by the MAC along with unpaid hotel bills, bus transportation fees and several others. They have been skipping on their bills for years and often did not even pay the site fee until the Armory attached the gate. Maybe people can now understand why the MAC and their NSIC event is no longer in existence and certainly not at the Armory. For those that think the MAC has merged their meet with the NSSF, you can see that was never going to happen and has not happened. Also, student athletes who paid their USATF dues at the NSIC/MAC event never had those funds and membership information forwarded to USATF National Office and found that when they attempted to run other USATF sanctioned events that they had no membership. Wonderful organization that MAC.

MAC or Metropolitan Athletic Congress is currently in receivership attempting to satisfy it's creditors. NSIC event at the Armory is DONE.

Will the NSSF folks be doing the right thing and honoring at least their financial commitment to the RLC for the dates they reserved in March 2011?
