hahahaha i live here and I kind of agree with this girl. it has come a long way though, but i cant wait to leave this town.

Man thank God all runner ladies aren't as self-absorbed, catty and mean-spirited as the 'women' on this thread. I don't care if you're attractive, what an abrasive personality, that gets old quick. In past club nationals. I have noticed the masters runners have a lot more fun at these club XC events than the young pups. You are young, lighten up and enjoy yourselves. I feel sorry for you when you all hit middle age if you're already this bitter now.

There are several Pro runners running this year. Many elite athletes who are legit elite athletes. Probably because you're not going to be there to chump up the place.

What? I have no problem with partying or running. I do them both with passion. My beef is with Charlotte, what a shit city.

Charlotte is the joke of North Carolina, which is a shame because it could have been so cool. Anyone who has lived in NC for more than 15 years knows this.

It is like the downtown zoning board got together and said, "lets get a many crappy chains as we can to flood the downtown so that we have no actual character in our city."

All I am saying is go to downtown Chapel Hill, go to downtown Asheville, go to downtown Raleigh (not Cary). Go to downtown Durham. Go to downtown Winston-Salem. All of these places have a distinct feel and cool bars and restaurants. Charlotte is like a big-box downtown. The Wal-Mart of downtowns. It makes me sad.

The worst part is that the small neighborhood places that USED to be somewhat cool got overrun by chains too! It was like whenever something good started to happen in an area, Wal-Mart had to have a piece too so they close everything else down and throw up a gaudy Starbucks or Caribou Coffee or Ri-Ra.

You can tell I am not trolling... Maybe I am bitter, but specifically about this...

Wow, what a spot on detail of the city. I think you are correct, but i hate to admit that I have had some really fun nights after anthers games. Probably b/c I was drunk and at a titty bar.

Sorry about that! I was responding to "Grossed Out Woman" who seemed to be taking her world view way to seriously. I think you are correct about Charlotte. Next year's Club Nationals will be held in SEATTLE so that should be amazing. You heard it here first. ;) Have fun and good luck to you. PS: Boone, NC is pretty cool too. I've seen Charlotte, will agree it lacks character.

After party is at "Breakfast Club", an always 80's themed bar/club. Trim your mullets, pack your leg warmers (no armer warmers), lace up your high tops, wear your brightest neon colors (both at night while running and on saturday night), roll up your jeans, and get ready to be sore on sunday...

Tight Body - I'm sorry you chose to live in such a city that you disapprove of. Bad judgement on your part I suppose. Might I suggest you look for employment elsewhere...

I would have liked to have stayed though. I had 300 hours accumulated towards Partner.

There's plenty of non-chain restaurants for you to frequent that aren't chain. Most have been around for more than 15 years. The Penguin, Pike's, Mama Ricotta's, Cantina 1511, Dilworth Coffee, Big Daddy's, Lupe's, Charley's, Hotel Charlotte, Mac's, Portofino's, Ed's Place, Thai House.... I can keep going but you get the point.

+1 for douche bag central. The Epicentre is awful.

Check out NoDa. There are several bars and some really good food. 2 miles from uptown. Lots hipsters but it's not too bad.

Jackalope Jack's on 7th (same rd. as McAlpine, just head towards uptown) is solid.

Anywhere but Epicentre..... unless you want to get in fight with an overgrown gorilla, score some coke, try to pick up a skank, or run into a whole bunch of toothless hillbillys from Gastonia, Rock Hill, and Concord that roll in from the sticks and want to hang out where all the "cool" people are the "big" city.

We are there to race same as you (supposedly). I'm happily married and will run this race, go out and have some beers with some of my racing companions, meet some great new people and make some more friends in this vibrant running community, and go home to my beautiful family. You sound so negative, especially toward men. Honestly that's not healthy. I'm willing to bet you've been mistreated by a man in the past and harbor some deep-seated resentment toward them. There are very few creepy old men who bother to run 60-70 miles per week and take care of their bodies, if you've met one that is not a representative sample becuase most of us are good people who would have a lot of running knowledge and experience to share with a younger runner who was interested.

We all grow old lady, but most of us age gracefully. Have a nice life and take anger management classes, sheesh you sound like a piece of work!

I disagree. I have been to many of those places. Some of them are pretty cool, others are trying to be like big-box chains, some are downright awful (Hotel Charlotte? Portofinos? Who are you?)

I am not claiming there are no cool places in Charlotte. What I am saying is that for a city its size, it is embarrassing.
