Having run this race twice, i think a lot of dudes here are underestimating how tough it is. No one will break 2:07:30 guaranteed.
1) Kirui- 2:07:58
2) Rothlin-- 2:08:30 everyone is forgetting how good and smart this guy races.
3) Gebremariam--2:08:55
4) Meb-2:09:10
5)Goumri-2:09:30
6) Ritz- 2:09:45
Haile-DNF
Geb vs. the field, I take the field hands down.
Geb vs. any other single athlete, you have to take Geb. He may be a flat-course time trial specialist in a hilly, stacked, unrabitted race, but he is also the greatest long-distance runner planet Earth has ever seen, and that's got to count for something.

Only prediction i am gonna make is ERkesso to win the womens race. Have been in touch with her coach and supposedely she is in sub 220 shape. Normally wins her marthon races. Keitany is good but never done a marathon. Half marathon world record holder lornah kiplagat could never step up and was faster over the half. The world half for women is soft. a 67 is regarded as brillant but the wr over the marathon is double that almost. If radscliffe cared she could of run 64. So Erkesso will win and win handy. Nobody is within 3 min of her shape.
.....................
Why I think Mary will win NYC marathon in her debut:
1.) Mary Keitany has been unbeatable over the 1/2 marathon in the last 3 years.
2.) Mary has good speed for a 1/2 marathon specialist as she placed 2nd in the World Best 10k road race this year only losing out in a kick.
3.) She destroyed the 25km WR 1:19:53 becoming the only women to run sub 1:20, in fact no other women has run faster than 1:21. Granted Paula ran 1:21:07 during her 2:15:25 WR but still no other women besides Mary K. and Paula has run under 1:22.
So Mary in her first attempt at 25km has run it over 2 minutes faster than every other female except Paula.
4.) I think the longer the distance the better Mary performs at this time.
THE ONLY WAY MARY KEITANY LOSES:
1.) she has some type of physical problem- injury or dehydration
2.) she miscaluates and go too hard to early; however, if Mary is patient and runs a smart and fast race I think she will win
If either of those two happen I do see Erkesso as being the biggest threat to capitalize
1. Geb
2. Lel
3. Meb
shocker - Ritz pipe dream)
BTW -- Geb wins this one easy!
why is everyone ignoring the fact that 2:08 will most likely win this race and for him that's a pedestrian pace? this is a guy who ran 6 5Ks in 14:30 in Berlin! flat course my a@! - who cares? go try do that and then do it 10 secs slower - world of difference. yes, there are hills in ny but he ran a 2:06-07 in dubai in sweltering heat!his main problems come with heat or injuries. if you give him a good weather (not hot) he kills everyone. he'll have a ton of gas left in the tank with 3 miles to go. this will be a boring finish in which we are going to be watching him increase the gap between him and #2 from 2-3 miles out and finish with a fairly easy win. Geb wins easy in 2:06-2:07!
I didn't know Mary's 25km world record was so much faster than the next fastest woman at that distance. Everyone knows Paula Radcliffe WR was one best marathons EVER and to think Mary's 25km debut was over 1 minute and 10 seconds faster than Paula's 25km spilt in that superhuman 2:15:25.
If Mary wants to she can become the first women to run sub 2:20 on NYC as she could probably have run 2:17-18 in her debut on a flat course.

I see your point, however, several runners in the past who aren't nearly as good as Geb have run in the mid 2:08's before at NY, so predicting a course record and sub 2:07:30 for Geb is not unreasonable. Maybe you are underestimating how good Geb is ... ?
However, a DNF prediction is not unreasonable considering some past off marathons he has had.
No disrepect to Werknesh Kidane but it really doesn't matter if she was still running as she couldn't beat Mary Keitany or Erkesso! After Mary wins NYC everyone will see her potential at the full 42km is much better than 1/2 marathon.
Completly agree about Rothlin - Regards

3. Mike Koral- young darkhorse watch out for this guy
Just googled koral. As a fellow PE lover it's really inspirational to have a guy this good to aspire to be like. it appears he'll be running in an effort to conquer obesity. with motivation like that i wouldn't want to get in this guys way

Where can you watch a live stream of the NYC marathon for free? Just saw a link but you have to pay $4.99 and thats f'in ridiculous. You get to watch the Superbowl, NBA Finals, World Series and any of those sports regular season games for free.
Now we track fans have to pay to watch a live stream of a domestic marathon? You got to be kidding me!!!! I was so excited about the race until I found out you have to pay, or is there somewhere to watch it live for free?
