2010 NYC MARATHON ELITE RUNNERS:

There will be a star-studded international field on November 7 at the ING New York City Marathon. Its a proverbial who’s who of marathon running, from the world record holder and marathon king Haile Gebrselassie, to the unexpected 2009 NYC Marathon winner Meb Keflezighi. A new angle to this marathon would be the return of Gebrselassie to racing against the best, unlike his usual Berlin/Dubai jaunts. Wanjiru and Merga are two big names missing from here, they would be running Chicago instead.

shocker kidane pulls off an upset that goes down in the history of greatest upsets in sports on par with the USA beating the supposedly unbeatable russians and then beating finland to secure the 1980 hockey gold medal, and buster douglas upsetting mike tyson.

and then kidane becomes the darling of the media, like gymnast mary lou retton used to be.

If it's over 50F at the start, they should cancel the race. If the weather isn't ripe for everyone to get PRs, the race should not happen.

I think people are not giving Gebremariam enough credit. World Cross champ last year, stellar track credentials, unstoppable on the roads this year, and debut 1/2 marathon of 60:25. I will pick him for an upset 3rd

They announced yesterday that Kidane pulled out.

Hard to pick, but I think Geb won't win this one!

He might be second or third!

I can't picture all these men running 2:05, 2:06, 2:07, or 2:08 in such a competitive field at NYCM. I predict only one man (the winner) will run sub-2:10 and it won't be a course record, even though there's 5 to 8 in the field that could run 2:06 at NYCM if they ran it as a TT. My only question is who will be the guy that will pace it right and get the victory. I think it will be Kwambai in 2:09:30.

What Geb runs is going to be hard to predict. As I think about his marathon history (London, Amsterdam, Fukuoka, Dubai, Berlin), this is the toughest course he's ever run. In fact, I can't remember another road race of any distance he's run that has a hillier course than NYCM.

I think Ritz will have a good race, but he'll be 5th or so in 2:11 or 2:12.

Hi guys,

Have you not seen that every year top finishers cruise in 65min at half point whatever the finish time so if Geb can make a 2nd part in 62'xx to finish in 2:07 I don't think there are any other guys in the field able to sustain this pace in NYC 2nd part hilly course.

I think Geb gonna pass in 64min at halfway point to CR in 2:07:40

to secure a top 3, under 2:10 should be sufficient as every year.

Only prediction i am gonna make is ERkesso to win the womens race. Have been in touch with her coach and supposedely she is in sub 220 shape. Normally wins her marthon races. Keitany is good but never done a marathon. Half marathon world record holder lornah kiplagat could never step up and was faster over the half. The world half for women is soft. a 67 is regarded as brillant but the wr over the marathon is double that almost. If radscliffe cared she could of run 64. So Erkesso will win and win handy. Nobody is within 3 min of her shape.

3) Ritz...injured my butt. If it was that bad or even close to bad he wouldn't be running. He didn't run the 8k in Central Park one year because he was run down or had a cold. Pleaseeeeeee people, he's ready to go or he wouldn't be there. All will under 2:08 (at the least) or very, very close.
