So, some of you say yes to sub 27:36, but no way to sub 13:13.
LOL.
One of you says a guy that only finished 13th at Worlds is suddenly good enough to set three national records ranging from 5K to HM.
LOL.

So speaking of Canada, anyone heading over to Kingston to watch the FISU world university XC championships next weekend? Any predictions?

So, what I'm hearing in this thread is "no way" to 13:12, which admittedly is a full second per lap faster than his present pr, but is this inconceiveable after such an epic run at Worlds?
He was 13th at WXC. That is not "epic."
wow your a tool, go back to justin beiber dot com or something; this is a running site. 'only' 13th at wxc lol. sb has done 1320s and 2750s. js records are not a huge leap for him esp now that he is in the best shape he has ever been in.

If you have a friend who speaks English, you might want to have him check your response before posting. Readers will be more likely to take you seriously in that case.
Actually I think /it seems he is aiming for a jump up to the marathon . That was his long term focus and I seem to remember him saying in the past that the marathon record was a definite aim. Unfortunately he mentions his legs didn't handle mileage so well relative to his track training.I still say that the marathon could be his greatest event, as his cross country running will always be far ahead of his track performances. The 13th WC doesn't surprise me as much as a 13:15 would...but who knows.Wish him the best!
As for NCAA titles/ quick times it seems like he has always been knocking on the door (13:25/27:50)however he along with other Canadians could be taking more cues from someone like Eric Gillis who although obviously less talented (did not break 4min 1500 until 20 yrs old!) I am amazed that this Gillis guy beat others like Cooelsat/Bairu to the title of Olympian and is now had one of the fastest debut marathons ever for a Canadian (2:13 B standard) and is well on his way to the Olympics it seems to 2012. That sort of focus seems to be missing with Bairu...WC/Track ?/Half m./..Marathon attempt?.. not to hate but I really would like to see the guy commit to one big goal at the Olympics.
13th at WCC is a terrific accomplishment. But suggesting that translates into 3 national records in 2010 either speaks to the weakness of these Canadian national records, or the ignorance of the OP. That's quite a stretch especially for such diverse events.

If the guy is supposedly on the verge of national records in the 5K, 10K, and HM, then "only" is appropriate when mentioning his 13th place finish. The real tool is the OP for even suggesting such a thing.

1. What is Sully up to so far in 2010? No indoor races? Training going well? Still gonna kick ass at 36yrs young?! :)
2. What about Nate Brannen? Is he on track for a stellar 2010?
And now a prediction:
Simon Bairu will set National Records for 5000m, 10000m and Half Marathon in 2010. You heard it here first. He turned a corner with his 13th place run at WXC.
1) already answered above
2) recovering from hammy pull late last year
Regarding your prediction: no way. Why put that kind of pressure on the kid? You think he won't see this thread or at least hear about it? Let's be thankful for what he has done and encourage him to continue to work hard and make some modest gains. He does not need ignorant letsrun posters putting him on some pedestal at this point in his career. Let's give him some breathing room and meaningful support.
Coach, thanks for posting. It is good to get news from such a reliale source. Keep up the good work.
Simon Bairu is a fine runner and student of the sport. He will go far.
Skuj? Not so much.

Last thing I remember him being in was the New Balance Games mile. Just looked it up and he was 5th in 4:01.64.
I see My Tormenter has been quite busy today. But ignoring all of his posts for now, on an ever so slightly related topic....
The WXC 2010 course: Flat and fast and accurately 12km? Do the times for this event mean anything to any of you*?
(I'll take this further if anyone other than *My Tormenter weighs in.) :)
Yes, yes. 2:48 km pace = 28:00 for 10km. Do I think he can run 3 seconds faster per km for the 10k record? Yes. Do I think he's going to run the 5km or the half marathon record in 2010? No.
Marathon record? Still don't think he'll get it this year, but I think he'll be close. He's not going to get 4 national records this year. He trains with Schumacher's group. He probably won't even race 4 times between now and cross country season.
Skuj, why is it that whenever someone has an opinion contrary to yours they are automatically your "tormenter?"
Because I can spot YOU from a mile away. Give it up.
Nevermind what I said about the WXC course. Previously I saw only the finish, but after watching a longer vid, it is clear that it wasn't so "flat and fast".
skuj is an effing retard who likes hearing himself talk and needs to be slapped upside the head.

So predictable. I guess Warhurst is your tormenter too?
you torment rw by pretending that he actually posted here.

Is that the same as Skuj tormenting SB by posting those idiotic predictions about him?
(I don't know if Warhurst made that earlier post, or not. But it seemed to have some inside information, so I assumed it was him. My bad, if it was not him.)
