If there was a protest, I think it would have been dealt with by now. I believe they have 30 min from the end of the race to protest anything (based on from what I remember of the 2008 Olympics).

if there was a lane violation, which i guess there must have been, it must have been EXTREMELY minor. probably a step on the line of lane 3 around the first turn. nothing is visible in the video but you lose sight of nick behind other runners for a couple seconds

They need to run the semis. Today was just the quarterfinals. Symmonds is not listed for the semis.
I couldn't see anything either, be nice to know if there was video on the lane where he stepped, since it is hard to tell from the video we are seeing. I'm sure he must have done wrong, but it's a shame since it is so minor we can't even pick it up.

it happens at worlds every once in a while. for the IAAF any step on the line is a DQ.

Sucks to be an american athlete these days. Kinda reminds me of not too long ago apollo Ono getting DQ'd for doing the SAME EXACT thing that the Canadian winner did in front of him, who'm didn't get DQ'd

Its pretty typical of a d3 athlete actually, they don't enforce such rules.
It's kind of shitty that in our sport there is no true explanation of the infraction. Sure he made a lane violation but where? Can we at least see a picture or video that clearly shows it? Not saying it didn't happen but it sure would be nice to see the reason one of our only distance medal hopes is going home early.
