Eatyer Wheatings, what happened

well wheating got down to that last year so he'll have to if he wants to beat wheating.

oregon has not been an indoor focussed team ever, despite winning today, and wheating is certainly at a huge disadvantage indoors compared to outdoors.

good thing indoors don't mean mean much in the grand scheme of things.

I predict wheating winning outdoors in the 800 this spring and getting down to 1:44 if he learns to get on pace earlier (it's only a .01 pr?) then going on to his true even next year the 1500. just wish he'd get to that this year.

congrats to hernandez, but it will be one of those "how did wheating not win indoors? in about 3 months.

At the olympic trials Wheating didn't literally crush Hernandez. Symmonds, Solomon, Smith, and Lomong beat Hernandez to keep him out of the final. While Wheating had a better performance by making the final and then making the team, it is wrong to say he crushed him when he didn't even race him in that semi.

Wheating is turning into the NCAA's Borzi. He waits way too long. He didn't really impress me much in his DMR leg either. And he barely outkicked guys 3 seconds slower than him in the final. He is lucky he is a giant and can out lean anyone. He is not even a factor if the pace is slow. Why would you spot Hernandez that much room at a 1:20 600. Thats pedestrian for a 1:45 guy. He had no chance for a come from behind win. His kick is only effective off a fast pace. Thats why all the Oregon affiliated guys made the Olympic team. They all have miler strength and waiting for KD to go to the well in the first 600 drag all the sprinters along with him and blow up in the last 200 while the Oregon guys just ate them up in the final 200-and its not b/c they have incredible speed or kicks they just have the strength to maintain a solid pace when everyone else is dead. He needs to stop trying to sneak up on Hernandez and really put himself in contention. Then we will see a good battle.

And that was not a good battle at NCAA's in Des Moines????

Yeah that was terrible. I mean here he was instructed to handoff in 2nd to Rupp and what does he do, get the baton in 5th or 6th and the right at the end with as little effort as possible bumps into second and motions to Rupp to move into the 2nd place spot to take it. I am never impressed when someone executes a plan perfectly!

Sarcasm aside, you may have missed it somehow but Wheating not only skipped races but actually had to cross train in the 10 days coming into NCAA's. I agree his tactics are not great for finals because they only work if you are 100%. He wasn't 100% and he realized that with about 150 to go, too late.

Below from the Oregonian, hopefully he can get healthy and come back for outdoors:

"Wheating was a wild card. The Ducks were concerned enough about pain and inflammation in the ball of his left foot that they ordered a magnetic resonance imaging to rule out a stress fracture. Much of his training in the weeks leading into the meet was in the pool and on soft surfaces. It probably had an impact as he tried to flag down Hernandez from behind.
