Willis 4:20.70
Lukezic second in 4:03.87, Myers third in 4:05.13, Webb fourth 4:05.60, Kiptoo Bor 4:07.44
called it...granted it wasn't exactly the hardest thing to predict
What the F$#k?
Hope Ulrey is ok. Sounds like he was with the leaders at the bell and bit it.
Did the fall mess up any of the other runners?
What happened to Webb?
Webb was 4th in 4:05.60
Okay, I just don't get this. These guys go all the way down to Arkansas to run on a very fast track and they go out in 2:07 for the first half? Why even bother showing up?
Did it ever occur to you that the milers wanted to simulate the 5000 pace to see what it feels like? Some of them might want to move up some day, and what better opportunity to emulate real competitors?

the saddest race i saw all night. every other race was great, great competition and great spirit, but that mile was pathetic. the rabbit went out in 1:30 perfect and saw nobody was behind and just gave up. I mean I don't expect world beating times but when the olympic development mile winner runs faster than the invitational, its a sad day for us milers
You're right, "lack," I should have thought of that myself. Doh! Good call.

I hate it when people complain about slow times in high-end races.
It's still some of the best in the world duking it out.
How they chose to race shouldn't really matter; the best guy on the night is still gonna win.
Just because it was won in 4:02 doesn't mean any asshat who can run 4:01 could have gone out and won it. If there was a guy who ran all-out for 4:01, the better guys simply would have gone that much faster.
webb had the idea at first, run the 800m. you would think after being set on that he would have changed his mind only due to some convincing. the 800m would have been better.
Would have liked to see Ulrey act a little more classy than tearing off his number and stomping away after falling tonight. I was in the stands and there were a lot people who came out to support him, especially younger fans. It was disappointing the way he handled it, he downright threw a fit right there in the middle of the track. All athletes get caught up and fall, and if you are a true champion than you hold your head up and act like one no matter what. Here's hoping next time he represents the Arkansas program in a more mature manner.
i think this sums it up. way to step up to the plate guys.
Men's Mile Run
Nick Willis
"It wasn't the fastest race because no one seemed to want to run with the rabbit. I thought I closed really strong so I was pleased with that aspect of my race. The race was delayed for about 30 minutes so all the warm-ups might have caused the race to be a little slow."
"As I have more success, I feel like I can take more risks. I ran more in lane 2 tonight, which usually I'm a little hesitant to do. Given the slow pace, I expected a strong push from all the young guys at the end, but fortunately, I was able to hold on and get the victory."
About USA Track & Field
i don't think you can blast webb's race from this yet. I think due to his typical trength oriented early approach and his discussion of not having done much pace work, no way would he be able to hang with wilis in a kick. Heck he may not be able to hang with willis anyways because I don't know if anyone can right now. But from a quick glance at webb's splits, it looks like his last 2 was where he got burned which isn't surprising.
2:07 is ~13:15 pace. Rupp probably ran his last 800m faster than the first half of the mile.
