according to Jack Daniels German is in 13:35 shape right now, and 8:25 2 mile shape, that is 7:49 3k shape, So therefore he will run no faster than 13:35, unless he improves his mile speed, because last year he ran 4:00 in the mile and that equals 8:34 2 mile, and that is what he ran so I think Jack Daniels is dead on for most people. German would have to get close to the American record in the mile to go under 13:08
well I think he's at least as good of a miler now as bob kennedy ever was, and kennedy ran under 13:08 fairly frequently. that said it usually happened in rabbited european races.
but the fact that hall and dobson ran 13:15 & 13:16 makes me believe fernandez is cabable of more magic. he really was looking quite strong at NCAA's before the fall, and to open his first indoor race ever like that makes me believe further.
perhaps if he goes to mt. sac or cardinal invite he may get a crack, more likely i see him running in the 13:teens.
one idea, race him as a miler most of the season with maybe one 5k at cardinal to qualify for USA's. then go to europe and blast one before USA's. shoot, he may even be able to win NCAA's in the 1500 if Wheating doesn't do it.
