Matthews races the right way to do pretty well at FLN. He typically lays off the pace just a little for the first half, letting others work and letting the race develop a little before he commits--a pretty decent way to look at running most FLN races. He doesn't have killer wheels, but he doesn't really have to. I look for a top 10 from him, possibly top 5, and am crossing fingers for a top-3.
Predictions:
1)Solomon Haile wins by 35 seconds, but is discovered to be 35 years old and is DQ'd.
2)Trevor Dunbar is en route to second, but 100m from the line sees a wild bear, chases after it, wrestles it, tames it, and rides it home.
3)So Schwartz ends up getting second, which would put him at first, but he is shunned for wearing a speedsuit, and therefore unable to claim his victory.
4)An underdog leads the first 800, but gets absolutely dropped in the 2nd mile.
5)Someone on this forum rudely either: a)rudely insults me. b) tries to actually logically argue against my predictions. c)somehow feels insulted or gypped by my obvious (though rather poor) attempt at comedy.
6)Bill Matthews changes his name to Dave and starts a band.
7)Some guy from the Midwest shatters pre-race predictions and wins.
Sonnenfeldt has been joined to Matthews at the hip this fall, so if Bill does well, I imagine Matt will, too.
Matt's dad is Marty Sonnenfeldt, who created the Knoxville TC's Youth Athletics Program, the most kick-butt youth track/xc program around.
Andrew Springer from Rhode Island will win the race in a sprint to the finish.
The overage Ethiopian will win. Irrelevant Footlocker will have egg on its collective faces when it is discovered that he is well overage. What a farce!

Yes and I've run the course probably 20 times. I've worked at the meet for the last 5 years. I've also measured it and have heard other people's measurements. I am also friends with the race director. I have never heard it being 70m or 110m short. I've heard any where from right on to 40m short. Majority say 10m short if they say it is short. So maybe your wheel is off? The course is marked every 200m so, are all of them off or just some of them?
