Rupp doesn't get paid by Nike and has sacrificed more then any runner in the history of American track and field by running in college hte past 3 years, and Gay is a cheater who should be banned from track and field forever. Big difference.
Gay should be banned from track and field forever because he allowed a coach and his family to show him some hospitality and help him out? I don't know how far this deal goes and I've heard some stuff that sounds maybe even a little more obvious than the stuff they detailed in the report. However, you're assertion that Tyson should be banned from track and field forever shows just how ignorant and biased you must be.
These infractions, I'm surprised at. If anything, over the past 30 years, I figured Johnnie Mac would have gotten nailed for his use of some dubious foreigners.
I'm just curious about how Galen Rupp has sacrificed more then any other US runner by going to college?
I know 4 years of free room and board and books is quite I sacrifice. i argue this with anyone that claims athletes in college should be paid. They are already getting over $100,000 (estimated) in education, food, room, books. If anything let them have jobs then cant complain if they dont have money

maybe arkansas is successful because they cheat. tyson gay, dirk heinze - this is not the first shady move by jmac and crew. they hired a man that they knew was a cheater but did it anyway to be good.

The NCAA didn't kick Arkansas in the teeth.
The University in its self imposed penalties, took 3 scholarship from the track program. The NCAA ruled they didn't have to do that. THe only thing the NCAA has done is made them vacate two titles and told them that they are on probation, meaning if something at UA happens illegal again, they are going to be screwed.

I heard that one about Contraras also. It was probably at that High School track were I saw Rueben Reina his freshman year being instructed to run inside the curve during a 5000. And I'm not talking on the line but like 2 feet inside the line. He was trying to qualify for NCAA's. I saw it with my own eyes. So he ends up running 14:08 instead of 14:10, big deal.
I thought it was funny more than anything else. Always have and still do have a ton of respect for McDonnell and that program. He wants to win and hates to lose. So it doesn't surprise me that after 20 years something like Tyson Gay might slip through when he wasn't being careful.

Brauman and his wife provided impermissible transportation for the athlete and helped arrange lodging for him during the summer of 2003, prior to his enrollment at Arkansas. What does home meets have to do with NCAA qualifiers. If you are saying that without a home meet, the guy/guys would not qualify, then they will not be a factor at the NCAA Championship meet. So, What is your point!
This crap goes on everywhere. Arkansas got caught because Brauman was sloppy and attracted too much attention to himself and Arkansas. Winning championships and having guys like Spearman and Gay on the same team (with Alistair Cragg and Daniel Lincoln...four points monsters) will put you under the microscope.
With the exception of Stanford and maybe Colorado, I figure most of the top schools get some foreign kids under dubious circumstances. I was speaking with a coach not long ago that explained how this Kenyan "import" deal works. They're treated like chattle. Certain schools get the first "picks" and it goes on from there. It's a complete fraud. I couldn't believe my ears. Kudos to those schools that aren't participating in this charade.
You've got kids that don't go to class. They get tutors under all sorts of strange circumstances and the big stars get money from all sorts of places.
I figure Coach Mac was letting this guy run the show with the sprinters and didn't interfere much. Who knows what he knew or didn't, but a gazillion national titles will get you a free pass.

ok Xenophobe... why are you talking about foreigners... this topic is about Tyson Gay, it has nothing to do with foreigners...
By the way almost every division I athlete has access to free tutoring through their academic centers. As for Rupp even if he is on a full ride he probably is still paying for something as far as living expenses go. I know kids whose full ride scholarships don't even cover their housing and food because the University sets the scholarship limit and that does not even cover the cost of living in the dorms and eating in the cafeteria.
Only point is before everyone gets all sanctimonious about that program, its the only place I heard (from an eyewitness) where a timer being asked to change a time.
On the otherhand, I love that place. I often wished I would have gone there. And all the redneck track fans are great! I went to pick up an award at a meet there and a guy asked me what place I got, I said 7th, and he just laughed.
They have high standards down there.
Tyson Gay should not have been eligible at Arkansas because of the violations that involved him at Barton CC. This is where all the violations started, with Tyson and Lance. They involved improper benefits related to work-study jobs that Tyson had that required him to do no real work, but get paid. Arkansas should have known that Tyson and Lance were under investigation while at Barton, and they should have passed on both.
