The outcry about the Patriots and the video cheating really highlights the hypocrisy of the NFL. Cheating via drugs is winked at, but cheating via spying creates a crisis. What kind of message is that to high school football players? Go ahead and destroy yourself, just don't steal the playbook.
You know something? That makes perfect sense.
Guys, it's the NFL. They would do whatever they can to win, and it's not a question of is it wrong because others are not doing it or even side affects for health. The ONLY reason these coaches, athletes and staff have any concern is whether or not they get caught.
If guys are playing football since middle school, eating like horses all through college and taking protein gainers and creatine while lifting and practicing all along the way, why do you think they still have reason to explode in the NFL?
It'd be like having 12 x 1500 meter runners graduate college every year as 3:38-3:42 types only to all get down in the 3:32-3:34 range their first year out. If that happened year after year you'd start to think their was some kind up "supplement" system in place in the big leagues. Or eventually you'd just get used to it....ehh-hem...the NFL.
They signed an endorsement contract with Basso after he was clearly, but strongly implicated, in Operation Puerto too...

I recall Merriman appealed. He claimed he took a supplement (such as one of those powers) that happened to have something banned.
The current Men's Health has an article on that very subject. Apparently, your supplement maybe spiked. In the industry, it is called "Fairy Dusting" in the industry.
When I used my ability to empathize;) with Merriman in this case, it made no real sense to get caught at the time. I believe it is those who have a hard time making it who are most likely to use PEDs.

My coach is a genius. I may not be that great a runner. But I don't consider my running career a failure. 4th in the country twice at 10,000m after only being a 30:19 guy in college. I am proud of what I accomplished.
I was talking about my coach and talking about drugs when I was a 30 minute guy so my actions are consistent.

I think that 90% of people dont know that Merriman was involved in a drug scandal. I really dont think a lot of people even know who he is.
He was used for the add because he isnt a huge star, same for Stephen Jackson. To show that work horses of the NFL and not the usual mega-stars.
