Exactly. He's not an 80 year old librarian. We shouldn't expect him to talk like one. In that context, his language was fine.
I thought his interview was totally acceptable.

Mottram was in the Media area, that's why it's wrong, he is supposed to be there for interviews. Grow up and look at the big picture, Tiger Woods gets angry when he plays badly but composes himself enough to answer the press, if this was the first time i would let it go, it's not good for running and it can't be good for the sponsors, Reebok or his sponsor..Nike

Actually, I would think to the contrary.
And I don't see anything wrong with the way Mottram acted. He looked pissed but acted pretty graciously. Saying the f-word in that context shouldn't be offensive at all. "I have a f-ing lot of time." It's just a word.
Link please?
Not sure what was wrong with the interview... I thought how the flotrack guys started it was very unprofessional, and he handled it well. In fact, I thought he interviewed amazingly. I don't see any problem with what he did.
Wow, just watched the interview and I don't get the uproar nor do I think he was pissed at the flocast interviewer.
Within moments of their races, these athletes are directed into the media area. Flocasts was only the first of several interviews they had to do while they were still breathing hard (Flocasts was first because they could supply a backdrop that boosted one of the sponsors, Smartwater). The Flocasts guy had to act quickly (the guy did about 20 interviews) with athletes who may or may not be ready. Look at the "Clark and Clement" clip. Hazel Clark was nowhere near ready to talk. It's not a perfect system, but it was better than in past years when athletes just walked past the media in the "mixed zone" and headed into their warmdown areas.
let me backup my statement. I should say that I have no evidence that Mottram is dirty other than hearsay. I totally agree that his progession doesn't bring up any red flags and I would honestly be a bit surprised if he did test dirty (well not too surprised just because of the whole landscape now). However, a couple of years ago there was an aussie athlete who outed buster's coach. It never went anywhere, but I don't know why this other elite athlete would out someone. I honestly like Buster but i think it's just a little hard for me to admit.
As far as the point of the thread. He wasn't in a sit down with ESPN or CBS, it was some dude running up and saying hey not such a great day right. he handled it well and he happened to say f***. SO WHAT!!!! now if he had said f*** YOU!!! and left then maybe that would have given this thread some merit. I think most athletes outside of the U.S. or even U.S. athletes who don't know about flotrack yet would've reacted the same way he did. To me, I'd rather hear the guy act like himself then act like some puppett in front of a camera.
Listen to this one and tell me his mouth is clean http://www.flocasts.com/flotrack/coverage.php?c=6&id=143
met Mottram last night not too long after the interview. Not very happy, but what does one expect? He expects the best out of himself and the race was still pretty fresh. But at the same time he still was signing autographs and taking pictures with people.... a class act if you ask me.
If there is one world class runner who is not on drugs, then it is Mottram. That guy races from January to December, druggies leave the scene for longer stretches to avoid more testing when they start to get on the stuff and they only produce poor performances when they are off, and then enter the big money races and boom.Like Khalid Khannouchi does.
Another gr8 example of his language is on his documentary on youtube think its number two when he refers to the African as "running to eat" he say "thous b.. (Holds a b for about a second "basterd" I recon) guys are running to eat; they don’t run well they don’t eat" another classic mottram turrets moment lol

Wow...after watching that i question some of you all's sanity. I 100% agree. At no point did he look upset, or say anything out of line. He was a class act considering the situation.

Yea, I second that. He seemed really nonchalant about it, your crazy if you think hes unprofessional/pissed off.
There was nothing wrong with what Mottram said in the ambush of an interview. He responded to all of the questions. Whats wrong with a bit of emotion???
I can remember Webb sulking like a 5 year old after a few races a couple years back.
We'll see in Osaka where Webb ends up.
He just lost a race to a kid who is 24 and has hair pattern of a 45 year old man, I'd be pissed too.
I’m not getting that mottrams not a gd guy! He’s a F**kin legend! But he uses bad language in quite a lot of his interviews! He’s cursed on live television before and I think for a lot of the younger viewers that’s not acceptable

Agreed. Class it up a little. to the people dismissing it, let him curse in front of your own kids.
I'd be fine with him cursing in front of my kids. I do it all the time, why would I care if he did?

I don't care too much about the cursing. He should just wait until the camera is off. Also, didn't Webb do a 10K last year and then jump the the 2 mi and 1500/mi? I wonder how that strategy will affect Buster. Hopefully better that is affected Webb.
Mottram has done that 10k at least the last two, maybe three years? It hasn't negatively affected him yet...
I think that Mottram is generally more honest and direct than most athletes interviewed after races. He is also more complimentary of his rivals, especially when he loses. After a loss, he does not automatically say "I ran poorly today" and then make a list of excuses. He usually says something like "I'm happy with my race and did my best, but Bernard (or Alan, etc) ran really well". I don't mind a little colorful language thrown in, when the basic behavior is still a good example.
Mottram is far better than average about treating his rivals well even when he loses, and sending kids a good implicit message about not losing faith in yourself just because you didn't win that day. If my daughters can keep their dignity the way he does after a loss, I can get over a few &^&)@#! words.
