Slow week?
While we are getting our money back we should ask doc for the money we spent housing him in Atlanta before the steeple chase/bath. He didn't try his best that is for sure.
Would someone tell me what happen (unbiased, reaccount the race, just facts). Then, would someone please explain to me why Lassiter deserves to be "shot." I don't know the whole story, and I'm not following what he did that was so wrong.

Frank Shorter only got second at Montreal. What a wimp. Why did he go there if he wasn't going to win it.
I'm a big Lassiter fan but if he runs his pr in this race, where does that put him? Thought so.
My calculations might be off but it if was a mile race I have Lassiter's splits as 1:50/2:33.
I guess he wanted to get his race and cooldown all in one.
Or is this like NASCAR? You get more points the more laps you lead?
Quote the "Edge" never more.
Why is it a problem with Lassiter pacing Lagat in the World Cup, but El G. can have a countryman pace him in the Olympic or World Championship final? I'm not being sarcastic, but why would only Lassiter be in trouble over this?
it's a big deal because Lassiter's trip was paid for by the USATF and he is NOT a "countryman" of Lagat. He was paid to race for the USA, not to pace a Kenyan athlete.

Simple - In El G's race it was not within a team competition.
In Lassiter's race was within a team competition.
Two completely different scenarios.
I'm hoping USATF goes to whatever lengths it can to prevent him from competing in a sanctioned meet again, even if it just to break his balls.
MADRID, Spain -- U.S. distance runner Seneca Lassiter could be punished by USA Track & Field for setting the pace for a Kenyan in the 1,500 meters at the World Cup.
Bernard Lagat, who trains with Lassiter, won the event in 3 minutes, 31.20 seconds. Lassiter, the defending U.S. outdoor champion at 1,500 meters, finished last in 4:05.82.
American officials said Lassiter's actions called the integrity of the U.S. team into question. Pacesetters are common in grand prix events, but the World Cup is a team event.
In a statement, USA Track & Field called Lassiter's behavior "grossly inappropriate in any national team competition'' and said his case would be sent to its board of review for disciplinary action.
The 25-year-old Lassiter said he was not in competitive shape for the race. He could receive a written reprimand, have his financial aid discontinued or face "other more severe penalties,'' the statement said.
Lassiter issued a letter of apology Saturday. He said he had "no financial arrangement'' with Lagat.
"My intentions were in no way meant to disrespect the team, the United States or this competition,'' he said. "I made a mistake that I am greatly sorry for, which will never happen again.
"I hope to have the privilege to represent the USA in the future so that I can demonstrate my true character.''
ttc,
Because EL G's teamate is exactly that... his TEAMATE. Lagat is Seneca's training partner, but not his teamate. I've trained with guys from Iona at the Armory here in NY over the winter, and when we raced at Mets (a scored meet that is similar to the World Cup in that it doesn't really mean much), do you think I paced them? Hell's no. It would be a disgrace to my teamates, my school, my coach, etc.
Also, El G's rabbit made it through to the finals on his own. He is legitimately one of the top 10 fastest humans in the mile. He earned his spot into the final like everyone else. Also, El G's teamate probably realized he wasn't going to medal. Without pacing El G, El G might not win. So, if he's not going to get at least a bronze and considering all other places are really the same (4th is as good/bad as 10th) he might as well help his teamate win. It looks better for Morocco, it is great for his friend, and he can say he had a hand in the victory. Keep in mind, the WC is NOT a scored event.
If McMullen and Lassiter make it to the finals next year of the WC's, and they both get their on their own merit, and one paces the other to a medal, that is fine. Same team, both earned their spot there, it was doubtful one would medal without the other's help etc.
There are so many differenes between what Lassiter did and what El G's countryman did its like comparing a square to a circle.

You are so out of it. I guess since you've been out of the states for so long you have lost some of your national pride. It's a big deal. He threw the race. He said, "Screw the USA, I don't care about my teammates and the team title, I'm going to help out Kenya." That's just what he did. It makes me sick he would do something so offensive. It said "USA" on his jersey. That means something to me, and it means something to a lot of other people. He was running for the United States of America.
just so there's no mistake: lassiter ran 4:05. he later ADMITTED that what he did was wrong. he absolutely had no intention of finishing the race competitively.
f*** the u.s!
seneca is cute :)

Note -- the "he deserves to be shot" comment was sarcasm, not hyperbole. Perhaps that didn't come through. I don't think what he did was all that bad. Most disagree with me.
(perhaps we should just maim him a little, eh?)
Jason,
You are mistaken. When you represent the US in an international competition you sign a waiver agreeing to certain rules. Seneca violated more than one. If you would like, I could e-mail you the rhetoric, but I think if you search on the net a bit, you can find them yourself.

Nobody ever accused Senneca Lassiter of being too smart.
All he had to do was say "I'm not in shape, I put it on the line and I ran a terrible race." End of story.
Instead, he wrote an apology, outlining exactly how he misrepresented and decieved the USA, and made a mockery of the sport.
Now, he's in a world of shit with USATF, and European meet promoters are going to have a very hard time inviting him to thier meets. The guy will be affected in ways he didn't even BEGIN to think about.
A series of poor decisions has tainted this promising runner's entire career.
samo out.
To all of you who are whining that the World Cup is not a big meet and no big deal I just have this to say...its a bigger damn meet than any of you meatheads will ever run in.
If it says USA on your singlet its a big meet.
